  1. Too easy for ya?
  2. But there was some pretty negative fallout from 1998 and McGwire, Sosa and Bonds smashing the home run record in the 'assisted' way they did. I wouldn't have thought MLB would want to head right back there, with juiced baseballs (and some still lingering PED concerns).
  3. However, the team righted the ship in plenty of time. There's no such explanation for the mediocre play of late.
  4. You know perfectly well there's no such empirical evidence. This is not exact science we're dealing with.
  5. Of course. A weak BP will cost you a few games here and there, in random fashion, regardless of opponent.
  6. Sounds like a LaunchBaller.
  7. Personally I didn't think that Restgate was a result of complacency and/or arrogance. I think they looked at all the extra innings pitched by the starters last postseason, and the analytics people probably dug up some data on how that has impacted starters the following season, and they came up with this rest scheme. It appears to have backfired a bit. But I think the intentions were good.
  8. Last year we had a brand new manager and coaching staff. We had a new, more aggressive hitting approach. We had two guys in Mookie and JD playing out of their minds, having career seasons. Everything went right for last year's team. It's a tough act to follow. Not dissimilar to what happened with the 2014 team.
  9. To this point, the one thing I will say in Zimmer's defense is that he had a terrible bench to work with that year.
  10. Nobody repeats in baseball any more though.
  11. This team seems to be psychologically messed up. I do attribute a lot of it to the World Series hangover. The hunger just isn't there. It's not an excuse, it's just the best way I can explain what I'm seeing.
  12. Is baseball turning into a game of LaunchBall? Emphasis on home runs, much more strikeouts? Is this good? Was it as a response to all the shifting? Is this what Rob Manfred wants? It would appear he has nothing against it since we now know as a certified fact that the baseballs they're using fly much further than the ones before.
  13. I'm starting to really dislike the trend of baseball toward a game of LaunchBall. More home runs and much more strikeouts. Which arguably started as a response to all the shifting. At the end of the day about the same number of runs are scored as before, but the nature of the game is different.
  14. I don't think momentum is the correct term for what Jacks is describing. I think it's more like the shift in win probability.
  15. I think advanced stats have been very beneficial in some ways. But I also think there's a legitimate question of whether the game itself has gotten better or worse as a result of some of the advances.
  16. You're doing good work there Max. The other thing you should check out is the 'Leongate' factor. Sale has a 2.68 ERA pitching to Leon, and a 6.39 ERA pitching to Vazquez. It was definitely a mistake keeping Swihart instead of Leon at the start of the season.
  17. Spike Lee must be envious of Drake these days LOL
  18. In the infamous 1986 WS Game 6 poor Schiraldi got a blown save in the 8th inning and the loss in the 10th inning. If he had given up a home run to Ray Knight instead of a single, I think he would have been charged with 2 blown saves and a loss. Bob Stanley got a blown save for his efforts too, of course...
  19. Because you saved a couple of other guys from having to pitch.
  20. Drake is an idiot alright.
  21. Sure, your admiration is obvious in this post on the previous page: The current manager had the benefit of a team built up to win. It wasn't a team that he built or molded. He was just lucky to be given the helm and he brought home a winner. Hooray for him.
  22. My post was strictly about 2018.
  23. So why are you not giving Cora credit for building the 2018 team then? They went from 93 wins and a first-round exit to 108 wins and a World Series. It's obvious you just have it in for Cora and will use any argument you can stitch together, with no regard for logic or consistency.
  24. Baseball managers don't build teams. You're thinking of the NFL and guys like Belichick.
