8/1/23:
Verlander - Mets will pay 35M of remaining 58M post trade and 17.5M if his '25 option vests.
Scherzer - Mets will pay 35M of remaining 57.5M (he took the '24 player option).
Keller is worse than internal options like Houck, Crawford and Pivetta. I think using one of them to fill in for Paxton is better than also signing Keller, who sucks.
It probably would have been: Sox take Myers' contract, Pads take Price's contract.
Myers: 13.8 AAV through '22
Price: 31 AAV through '23
If that's the case, the Padres would have assumed MORE $$$ than the Dodgers did.

Two Red Sox SP target updates, per sources:
* There has been consistent communication with James Paxton and a reunion there is in play but not a certainty.
* Remain engaged on Lucas Giolito along with many other clubs who are targeting his upside.
It was to seal the deal for the Red Sox, not the Dodgers. If Price wasn't going to be packaged to LAD, there were rumors that he could be packaged to SD instead.
"We like Verdugo, Wong and Downs, but you gotta take Price too."
Yup, should have traded Sale, but that was unlikely to happen. Hard to trade Sale AND Price or Nate AND Price. More likely it'd be JD AND Price or it would still have been seen as a big tank job.
Mazz said as much early last week. Merloni agreed at the end of the week. Now McAdam wants to get in on the fun.
I had to swallow my pride to both listen to the Mazz podcast and report it to my beloved TalkSox fans.
