    Well, the real high risk signings are the high dollar/long term ones. Wacha/Hill/Richards aren't high risk as the the deals were short and the amounts were relatively meager.

    It seems like that's what FO is doing with how everything is being handled. I'm just reading the tea leaves. 1. No to Yamamoto 2. Sale/Monty are too expensive 3. Go cheap on Giolito, but allow him an opt out after one year 4. Trade Sale for a prospect that is going to need time to develop 5. Trade Verdugo for MiLB guys 6. FO told a FA they need to clear MORE payroll before they make a competitive offer 7. Rumor is they are looking to deal Jansen, Martin and/or Story Does that sound like the plan of a team that is looking to compete for real?

    He signed for 1x16 (includes 2M buyout) coming off shoulder surgery. His velo will probably be down, but it's not a bad risk for a one year deal.

    It's planting season for me. I'm redoing a few beds in my front yard and most of the backyard. My son just started getting into mycology so there are pots of mushrooms all over the place too.

    Sox's SP was 22nd to AZ's 14. What's the point in having a shutdown bullpen if you're already behind. Verdict: NOT a WS pitching squad.

    1. As fans, some of us think the Sox are still in it when reality is they are a long shot ('22 and '23). 2. Now with the expanding playoffs, the Sox have a better chance to get in as a bad playoff team and get smoked in the WC. What's the benefit in that? If the team isn't at least as good as the '21 squad, they need to sell some of these short term contracts.

    Sox were 16th in wRC+ last year. Arizona was 18th. That's a WS caliber offense, baby!

    Reagan was president the last time Franco played SS. He'd probably have to play 3B and you slide Devers over who has a career 0 DRS at SS. Not great, but not Kiké bad either!

    Well, there's not much going on and Giolito's contract is one of the newest things to discuss.

    I don't think teams offer QO's expecting the player to take it. I was just saying the upside of going for it and keeping Giolito is that you can get a QO. The trade return probably is better, unless you're Chaim Bloom.

    He greenlighted the Sale contract because it was much smaller and he hated that it was signed right after. He openly bitched about it.

    If the offer was 265, he still would have gotten more as a FA with the Dodgers. The Sox were still intending on lowballing Mookie the way Xander was and the way Lester was.
