  1. Haren hit Tek, and later on Schilling hit Swisher. Both teams were warned by the home plate ump.
  2. I wonder if the jeering from the crowd behind the Oakland dugout finally got to him.
  3. I still don’t get the connection, but f*** it…It worked yesterday.
  4. Saw this on FOX Sports from today:
  5. Wow, first shutout of the year. Good job all around.
  6. I wonder why Willie Harris isn’t pinchrunning? (just joking)
  7. Papi deposits one into the Sox bullpen.
  8. Curt lowers his ERA to 3.42 with 7 quality innings: 2H, 1BB, 9K on 102 pitches. The blood of Grendle has been shed.
  9. An extra run with 2 outs thanks to Cora and 2 errors.
  10. The season is half over and I don’t see much evidence that Beckett has made any adjustments. Could it be ego and/or plain stubbornness?
  11. Bradley running his mouth from the dugout.
  12. Heh, heh…Swisher feels Curt’s fastball.
  13. Nice job by Cora to stretch that into a double.
  14. Big 2 run triple from Papi.
  15. http://espn-att.starwave.com/media/mlb/2004/1023/photo/g_schilling_il.jpg End this f***ing losing streak. Timely hitting, solid defense, and quality starting pitching…time to get back to the basics.
  16. Beckett’s problems are mostly location and varying his pitches. Living off the fastball can only go so far and I wonder if part of his reluctance to learn/try to use other pitches (like a cutter) is just stubbornness. I’d like to see him throw inside a bit more too, and it wouldn’t hurt if someone like Schilling took him aside and gave him some mentoring. It’s time he made some adjustments in his repertoire if he expects to be successful in the AL, rather than a league average starter with a 5+ ERA.
  17. Instead of coming down of the pitching, take a look at the team’s offense for the month of July. As of today the Sox are batting .246 for July. There are only 2 other teams in the majors with a worse record: Seattle and Oakland. How about the alarming rate that runners are left on base? This is what’s hurting the team now. But to panic right now is way overboard. Teams go through slumps over the course of a season. There are a lot of games left play and the Sox are still in a good position right now to take the East.
  18. This was asked in yesterday’s game thread and it bears further discussion. Maybe a way too simplified answer is that blister concerns are there and the Sox have instructed him not to use it so much. I also think when he starts to miss with the curve early on, he quickly loses any confidence and goes back to the fastball, and here and there a changeup. It’s so damn frustrating because we know he has the talent, but relying on two pitches to get him through most AL lineups will get him shelled more often than not.
  19. I found this on Boston.com Ask Edes from earlier today. Good observation and insight on what happened tonight.
  20. I gotta give the A’s credit so far. Who would have thought that the worst hitting team in the league would come into Fenway and take care of the Sox they way they have?
  21. It’s sad when the Hood blimp is more interesting than the game.
  22. How many of those runs were earned?
  23. It seems like when the Sox do commit an error they’re almost always costly.
  24. Seanez loses the first batter…typical.
  25. Coco knocks Zito out of the game. Time for a big come from behind.
