  1. Has this story been confirmed by any other news source than the NY Post?
  2. Beckett needs to string together 3 or 4 good starts, especially on the road. Tonight’s game was big. Zito really didn’t have his good stuff, but it was good to see the Sox offense take advantage on left handed pitching. Good to take game 1 in the series especially when they kicked the Sox ass last time they met.
  3. Time for Papi to do something about that.
  4. Since Timlin was used last night, wouldn’t it been safe to either use JVB or Seanez for the 8th?
  5. Hansen’s gotta learn to get out of these jams but I’m freaking nervous… Edit: And he gets the groundout.
  6. I was hoping Beckett could’ve gone at least 7 tonight.
  7. And it helps that Frank Thomas is sloooow.
  8. I f***ing hate Swisher. I wish Beckett had just hit him.
  9. I like the high towering shots. Some of the ones he nailed in the HR derby that went in the water were incredible.
  10. Alright Coco, time to get the monkey off your back.
  11. Time for retaliation.
  12. Sweet K on Kotsay for the final out.
  13. I like all of the encouraging talk about Wells.
  14. I thought that was just gonna be a routine fly ball.
  15. Gonzo's been showing some power over the past couple of weeks.
  16. If Boomer can come back an be effective it would be the best non-trade improvement the Sox could expect.
  17. I heard a quick snippet on NESN tonight saying “Gabbard will not be working out of the bullpen because of his history of arm problems“. They showed him doing a simulated throwing session. I know he’s had a history of arm surgeries, but does this mean he can’t (ever) serve as a reliever, or just something that affecting him now? I came in on the middle of the conversation so can anyone fill in the blanks?
  18. Talk about overkill, that rumor page mentions the Sox looking into: Ryan Shealy, Bobby Abreu, Tom Gordon, Julio Lugo, Jon Lieber, and Greg Maddux. I’d be surprised if any of those guys are on the team a week from now.
  19. I'd have to agree more with the last sentence in the rumor:
  20. With those numbers against Zito this game would make more sense to have Kapler starting. The ones over the past few days should’ve had WMP up against Redman, Moyer, and Washburn. Maybe when Tito shakes up his Magic 8-Ball for tonight’s decision, WMP will get the start. Edit: Announced on WEEI that WMP is starting tonight, batting 7th.
  21. Assuming Wake doesn’t get moved to the pen next year, is Mirabelli the only catcher that can handle his knuckleball? The circumstances that led to Bard given the task were all clouded by the fact that he really didn’t have enough time to learn to handle it. I’d like to see the Sox looking to a younger (and cheaper) option next year for a backup catcher.
  22. I wonder if Mirabelli and Kapler will be brought back next year. Both have become fan favorites over the years, but is there really any need for either one of them as the team looks to the future?
  23. Not to necessarily disagree here, but it’s sad in today’s MLB we look at players under those circumstances. Since we don’t know for sure it’s obviously speculation, like in Trot’s case.
  24. *bump* I am baffled with how Tito has used WMP and pitching matchups since he’s returned from the DL. Specifically how he’s used Kapler over WMP against the LH starters they‘ve faced over the past 5 games. How is WMP supposed to get AB’s when he’s getting passed up on all of these prime opportunities? Wasn’t he supposed to be the right handed platoon with Trot? Is there some question of his health not 100%? I know he ran out of time in AAA (20 days) to rehab. Is it a question of his defense? He’s never going to improve sitting on the bench. It’s been suggested it’s more Tito’s attachment for certain players (e.g. Millar) that’s calling the shots, in this case it’s Kapler. Or more generally his preference for vets over lesser experience. I’m just wondering if I’m missing something here that would help make this more sensible.
  25. Ramiro Mendoza, the infamous Yankee double agent whose success and production was measured by how much sucked for the Sox, and thereby helping the MFY. Other than maybe Mike Stanley, I can’t think of many. I have to agree. Other than not playing in the shadow of Jeter, I’m not sure how it would be easier or less pressure for A-Rod in Boston. If he didn’t live up to Manny’s offensive production and Gonzo’s fielding he’d be booed just as much. A-Rod’s problem is he needs to play ball and keep his mouth shut, and not let the media turn everything he says and does on and off the field, into a news item.
