  1. I do too. He’s got good stuff. It seems like it’s one inning that does him in.
  2. Sweet. An early lead for Snyder as Papi hits one out off Moyer. 1-0 Sox
  3. I wonder why Trot is starting over WMP, when they’re facing the lefty Moyer. Maybe it’s a move based on defensive ability, but when is WMP supposed to get AB’s against LH pitching?
  4. Yeah, it was all done hand-in-hand, within a very close time frame. * Nov 28, 2003: Schilling trade * Dec 4, 2003: Francona hired
  5. Are you positive? I thought Schilling’s contract was finalized around Thanksgiving 2003 and Francona’s contract was signed in early December 2003.
  6. They wouldn’t stop trying to improve the club, but I think Francona’s decision to come to the Sox was largely based on his past relationship with Schilling. It’s possible that had Grady been brought back for 2004 that Theo never would have pursued Schilling.
  7. From Extra Bases on boston.com. No Mike Lowell again tonight. Red Sox 1. Kevin Youkilis, 3B 2. Mark Loretta, 2B 3. David Ortiz, 1B 4. Manny Ramirez, DH 5. Jason Varitek, C 6. Trot Nixon, RF 7. Coco Crisp, CF 8. Gabe Kapler, LF 9. Alex Gonzalez, SS P--Kyle Snyder Mariners 1. Ichiro Suzuki, RF 2. Willie Bloomquist, 2B 3. Adrian Beltre, 3B 4. Raul Ibanez, LF 5. Richie Sexson, 1B 6. Carl Everett, DH 7. Kenji Johjima, C 8. Yuniesky Betancourt, SS 9. Adam Jones, CF P-- Jamie Moyer
  8. Exactly. How ironic is it that because the Sox lost the 2003 ALCS the way they did, it led to Grady’s contract not being picked up, which led to Francona being hired. It also fueled an effort to go out and acquire an ace (Schilling) and a solid closer. My point was that had the Sox won the ALCS then there’s a good likelihood that they wouldn’t have won the WS in 2004.
  9. The point I thought was interesting was how things might have been different in 2004 and beyond, had the outcome been different with the Sox winning. Like would Grady Little still be managing the team, and would the Sox have gone out and acquired Schilling and Foulke.
  10. Doesn’t Wells have 4 HR’s off Beckett this year? IIRC, there were 2 games in Toronto where he hit 2 HR’s in each game.
  11. I saw that Wake has been officially put on the DL, but no countermove has been made yet. The speculation is Gabbard will be called up. But since the Sox seem to be taking their time in replacing the open spot on the roster, can we read between the lines and assume a trade is in the works?
  12. I like the fact he got 2 hits, but the walk and 0 K’s show that he had some discipline at the plate. Nice to have him back.
  13. Judging by this move and the fact the Braves are still close in the WC race, can we assume now that Smoltz will not be traded?
  14. I wouldn’t mind seeing MDC in for the 9th.
  15. Interesting lineup announced on WEEI 1. Crisp 2. Loretta 3. Youk 4. Manny 5. Tek 6. WMP - DH 7. Kapler - RF 8. Gonzo - SS 9. Cora - 3B
  16. I missed the first part of the game, but how kewl is it that 2 of the 7 hits the Sox had were bunt singles from Papi and Lowell.
  17. My first thought was why not give Pauley another chance. But it makes sense that the Sox don’t want to interrupt his time in AAA and give him some stability for his development. This has been a special season for Sox fans as we get to see how the young pitching prospects will hold up in the majors. I’ve never seen Gabbard pitch so I’m kind of looking forward to the opportunity.
  18. Given how the Arroyo contract worked out for him, I’m surprised that Beckett didn’t seek or get any no trade protection in the extension.
  19. Wake has been ailing now for at least 2 to 3 weeks. It seems strange that it took this long to actually figure out what’s wrong. I wonder how it happened…
  20. Kudos for Theo for getting Beckett at a relative bargain for a total of $30M (including a $2M signing bonus) for 3 years. The timing on this is kind of odd however, especially coming on the heels of some bad outings (not counting today). I guess this shows that Beckett likes pitching in the Boston limelight. and good job by Theo again to allow enough time to go by to see how he would hold up.
  21. I wonder when the last time the Sox swept a 3 game series by scoring a total of 7 runs.
  22. Bell was arguing the strike zone.
  23. I bow humbly before the Sox young pitching staff. A combined one hitter.
  24. Please, please, please Manny. Make them pay.
  25. Ambiorix…great name.
