  1. I though Chicago was supposed to get Nomar, and Boston was to get A-Rod and Mags. (I could be wrong...)
  2. Just once I’d like to see the A’s shell out some deserved $$ to a player that’s been a mainstay of the team when their contract is up. Watching all of their top talent go the way of free agency, just because they can always do better elsewhere, is a crime.
  3. This was a game where the outfield defense was asleep and the rookie pitchers showed their respective weaknesses. I can forgive the rookies because it’s all part of a learning curve, but what I saw from Coco and Manny today was brutal.
  4. After Coco’s adventures in the outfield this weekend I find the timing odd to make an argument that he can adequately play RF.
  5. Tough loss for Timlin today, weird game overall.
  6. Was that the second HR that Putz has given up this year?
  7. YES!!! Varitek comes through in the clutch.
  8. Is the sun blinding everybody in the outfield today? Or just making everybody stupid?
  9. Is it too late to say that I wouldn’t use him for the 7th today?
  10. Big K to get out of that mess.
  11. I agree it’s risky, but you gotta expect at some point he can get at least 6 outs cleanly.
  12. Lester’s game to win and he can’t be charged with a loss. Good job by Tito with the quick hook.
  13. It’s about time that luck goes the way of the Sox. Jones should’ve made at least 2 of the plays in CF.
  14. Thanks for that line. I needed a good laugh. It must suck being Torre these days. He’s done a good job patching together a team that has had a rash of serious injuries. But to see his team stoked with all of that talent flounder with its pitching woes and A-Rod’s issues must be a real punch in the gut.
  15. Lineup announced on WEEI: 1. Youk 2. Loretta 3. Ortiz DH 4. Manny 5. Tek 6. Lowell 7. Coco 8. Kapler RF 9. Seabass Again Tito doesn’t start WMP against a lefty starter. Why?
  16. In as much he’d be an upgrade offensively, he’d be much more of a downgrade defensively. When the team was constructed at the beginning of the season the emphasis was defense from the SS position. For the amount you’d end up in overpaying to get Lugo for a half season rental and the overall drop in fielding (compared to Seabass) I hope the Sox stay clear of him.
  17. I think Trot’s power outage is becoming a concern, especially for someone who regularly hits 5th in the lineup. It’s been almost a month since his last extra base hit, and even longer since his last HR. To watch a player’s offensive production tail off the way his has this month is a red flag, especially since he’s played the season injury free.
  18. I’m not sure if you’re saying the bullpen was managed as such that Tito deliberately held Tavarez and Seanez until the Saturday game in order to showcase the pair to the Rockies’ scouts. If that’s the case I think they got a true picture of Tavarez’s overall season: that in close situations he’s a liability. The Gonzo error wasn’t his fault, but 3 walks in 1.2 innings is unacceptable.
  19. It really sucks that Coco broke his finger on that slide early on this year. I’ve noticed that at times he’s still wearing it wrapped up so I’m guessing that he’s still not 100%. I’m beginning to think this is almost a write off year for him offensively with the possible lingering injury. For his speed factor alone I’d like to see him in the leadoff spot, but his offensive numbers simply don’t justify moving him back any time soon. For July he’s been slumping big time to the point the looks lost at the plate sometimes. At the beginning of the season I was psyched that the Sox got Coco: for his speed, his bat, and his glove. But right now he’s been a disappointment at the plate. He makes the plays in the field, largely due to his speed, but I wouldn’t say he’s a top level OF’er either. I’m hoping that he gets back to form soon and can put the first half of this season behind him.
  20. I was impressed with Gabbard’s debut. Other than some costly walks that Ichiro capitalized on, he got through 5 innings with only 2 runs allowed. He got a lot of groundouts and 2 DP’s, and showed a nice sinking fastball. It sucks that he was victimized by a bad call from the umpire, an error, and the relief work of Tavarez. He’s definitely not the answer to the 5th starter question for this year, but to fill in until Wake or Wells can come back, it looks like he can hold his own.
  21. Tavarez has been used a lot this month so I don’t know if part of his problem is fatigue: physical or mental. Before the ASB in the Chicago series he did well in relief, but since then he’s been shaky at best. Maybe he’s just cooked, who knows? He hasn’t quite reached the point IMO that he should be released because he can eat up innings. But for a veteran reliever he simply isn’t living up to what you’d expect and need, and Tito shouldn’t have to manage around his inabilities.
  22. Gabbard gets the loss on an unearned run and a bad call from the ump. Other than a couple of walks his debut wasn’t bad. Tavarez brought in to get outs and he was terrible. He deserves the loss. Using him in a close game now is too much of a risk.
  23. I’m getting tired of their Manny smack today. Is Bud still pissed he didn’t play in the AS game and told Fox to overdo it today?
  24. Put him out for the 6th but with a short leash. Keep his debut positive.
