he has no business playing major league baseball. none. after his s***** play last year, the FO should have dealt with him during the offseason. had they done so, maybe they wouldn't have had to trade half the f***ing farm for AR.

Right now he reminds me of ALCS 2004 Varitek trying to catch Wakefield.

I'm kinda okay with Wong as a back-up, one out of five game catchers, but we can do better.

Getting good catchers is not easy or cheap. It's often hit or miss. 

Things seem to change quickly, too. I was very happy with Narvaez, until I suddenly wasn't.

Bloom has made a lot of somewhat minor moves to improve the farm catching outlook, but most are too far away to help in 2027 and maybe even 2028.

He's fine for what he does.  0.4 bWAR in 205 ABs.

Trading Wong wasn’t going to make Narvaez hit, and they weren’t going to be able to trade him for much of anything.

I was going to say there must be plenty of Sandy Leons out there, ya know, bonafide big league back-up catchers. Then I looked him up: career -0.3 WAR, including NEGATIVE WAR every season since and including 2018 (when I swore he helped Boston win a world title).

This is where I need WAR mongers to elucidate me. If this "stat" values Wins Above Replacement players, then who exactly are those guys? It can't be some jabroni off the street, because the average humanoid couldn't catch a 90-mph fastball, let alone squat while wearing the tools of ignorance, let alone still not get killed with a batter swinging in his eyes.

Are Replacements just the Brian Daubachs of the world, scabs vilified by the union for getting a chance at their dream, and in Brian's case, establishing himself as a major leaguer?

Sandy Leon: statisically valued at BELOW a Replacement, and yet valued with a job offer by at least one MLB club for the past 14 years?

Maybe other back-up catchers have even worse negative numbers.

Maybe our back up catcher sucks, but if he sucks by less than other teams we gain.

My main reply would be CERA numbers don't count in WAR.

I'd rather a backup that was a better receiver and a poor hitter than whatever Connor Wong is.
