It's really not, when missing two All-Star bats -- the #2 and #4 hitters in the batting order. 

The only star left in the line-up is Abreu, and a lot is made of his 13 second-half homers. Gasper has cooled a bit; he only has a .905 OPS this month -- but where would the O be without his 9 HRs in 19 starts since August?

Rutschman hasn't been a star hitter since 2023. Anthony doesn't have Duran's wheels, but is closer to him than we want to admit: a power threat with lots of Ks. 

The rest are what they are: 250ish guys with occasional gap pop when hot. When this group is depleted and the starting rotation is just trying to eat innings to get through the month, you lose more than you win.

not surprisingly, the Sox have scored fewer runs this year than every team now scheduled to make the playoffs. the pitching staff has carried this team all year and when it falters, even a little, there is little chance.

i know Alonso and Bregman would have cost the team's billionaire owner a few dollars he could easily afford, it would have been nice to have their bats in the line up all season.

There were many people who played Bozo. Didn’t know about Bob Bell and his baseball ties. Avruch was the guy who played the clown when it first became syndicated on Boston TV. Now many on the current Sox roster are doing their best to imitate Bozo on the baseball diamond.

It loosely translates to:  ”I want Breslow gone, but the team is good.  I wish the team would be bad so Breslow would get fired and then the team could replace him and finally be good like they already are right now.”

It’s a baseball board.  We need baseball ties.

Bell was Bozo on WGN in Chicago, where I am now.  Of course, when he was actually playing Bozo, I was still living in Worcester…

But they aren't good, at least they aren't good enough to be serious competitors for a ring. They could have been if Breslow had done his job over the winter. I am not saying that he did nothing good-just an incomplete job. Everyone knew that in addition to who was signed we needed at least one, maybe two, very good bats. We didn't get them, and THIS team is the result. Last year I was content to just get into the playoffs. This year I wanted better. Unfortunately its looking like a carbon copy of last year's playoffs-one and done at the hands of the Yankmees.

They were not going to bench one of the 3 best hitters of a top ten scoring team in MLB last year just to squeeze in another hitter to appease fans who somehow have forgotten how to count to two and who don’t believe pitching and defense really can win games.

The fact that theyre about to have the exact same record as last year (81-68) is remarkable because 1) at one point they were 32-46 and 2) the biggest reason for excitement last year was Garrett Crochet, who only pitched in 6 games this year.

Just because Breslow didn’t get one guy you wanted (and didn’t know Duran would be tjis bad) doesn’t mean he didn’t do his job.  Heck he went above and beyond this year.

Not good enough for a ring? Why not? In a single series, they’ve  swept the Yankees .  And the Rays.  And the Dodgers.  And the White Sox.  While the odds are against them, Thsts more about the “12 teams enter, one team leaves” model than the capabilities of this team..
