You claim to be informing blind "ingnorers," and you wont defend your thesis.

You are about as balanced as Faux News and MSN.

You get an F and back on ignore.

Awwww….you’ll miss me! Why on earth would I care if you read my posts or not. You’re not that important to me.

Are you seriously dedicated to repeatedly pointing out the deficiencies of a top 5 candidate for AL MVP?

Especially since you’re also dedicated to repeatedly singing the praises of a far worse player in Pete Alonso…

I also point out the things he does well. Unlike some here I don’t just parrot his many accomplishments.
I don’t pine after Alonso-but he would certainly have helped this team.

IDK, A lot of us are happy with Wilson Contreras at 1B, who has been great on both sides of the ball.

Absolutely! Contreras has been excellent. I think the right move over the winter was to add Alonso and find a way to get rid of Masa. Now Masa has been decent but a RH power hitter would have been an upgrade.

IDK, hindsight is 50/50.

If we signed Alonso over the winter, I don't think anyone is sitting here saying we need to find a way to get rid of Masa so we can trade for Contreras.

In hindsight, I’d take Alonso over Duran.  But I also assumed at the time, like many, that Duran would, at a bare minimum, not suck ass…

Yeah, but then are playing Yoshida in LF? how do you get Alonso over Duran?

Gor the ten millionth time, getting rid of Yoshida eould not have created a spot for Alonso last December ( you know, when Alonso was signed).

The Sox lineup at the time was:

C: Narvaez

1b: Contreras

2b: Mayer

3b: Durbin

SS: Story

LF: Anthony

CF: Rafaela

RF: Abreu

DH: Duran

BN: Yoshida, Kiner-Falefa, Wong, Monasterio

Alonso was not going to replace Yoshida.  Duran or Anthony only.

And at the time, Anthony was not hurt and we didn’t know Duran was going to have an awful year.  But we didn’t know know Alonso was not going to sign on to replace Yoshida as the Sox bench OF.  Or IKF as a utility infielder, since you’ve repeatedly assumed the Sox chose him over Alonso as well…

When Alonso was available, Anthony was healthy and available to start in LF.  Duran was DH/4th OF.

People make this argument because they think they can just throw Alonso in at DH in hindsight.  But there are two problems with this.

A. you're likely signing a guy well into his 30's to DH and paying him $35 million a year.

B. and probably really the A point A1 and A2 is that Alonso was a 1B.  People wanted to sign him to play first base.  And the people who wanted two bats all offseason were clamoring for a 1B/3B.  It was Alonso/Bregman or Bregman/Schwarber or some permutation of two bats that generally centered around 1b/3B.

It started off ugly, and perhaps people just have PTSD from how crappy the beginning of the season is, but you really can't argue against Durbin/Contreras right now.  They're probably better than just about any two acquisitions you could have made this offseason

Yes but Yoshida was not, but there was already a log jam there and the thought was you rotate those 4 guys between LF/CF/RF/DH.  I suppose if you view Duran as the stricth DH, you don't rotate guys and you go out to get Alonso as DH.

But again.....this all goes back to my original point of having an opinion based on hindsight.  No one was calling to dump an outfielder as a method of getting a DH.

Right now the Red Sox offense in the American League:

FWar 6th

Runs 4th

AVG: 2nd

OBP: 2nd

SLG: 3rd.

Next year we will be adding back Anthony/Mead and getting a full year of the Rutchman and Arias at some point.

I'm no longer worried about this offense. I'm back to wanting starting pitching depth and a bullpen piece.

Yoshida entered the season as an overpriced bench bat with poor outfield defense

Alonso as DH instead of Yoshida.. that would have given our lineup more thump.

How many peopel were talking about signing Pete Alonso to DH and not talking about signing him to play 1B back in March?

In your more challenging classes, you also don't get an A for supplying superficial and obvious answers.  MVP pointed out his progressive K-rates.  That'll get you credit.  K/W will get you credit.  Hot & cold zones, loft, EV, swing speed, will all get you credit.

"Him strike out much" might get you a 'present' in the attendance log.

Alonso wanted to play 1st.  We could've had Contreras or Alonso, but not both.  We chose well.

Me. I said they should sign him to be DH. That's more than enough since I'm just so wonderful.

He wanted money, not the position. If the Sox ponied up the dollars, he'd be here at DH.

For the eleven millionth time Alonso could have replaced Masa making Duran a bench player and Alonso a DH. There was also a lot of talk over the winter about trading an OF. This could easily have been done, but for the fact that the owner was too cheap to do it.

Sure Joe. Keep dreaming. For the right money Alonso would have done whatever was required. That’s the way it works in baseball-almost always. It’s a business.

So you finally commited to benching a player!! Finally benching Duran to accommodate date Alonso.  It only took 5 months!! I mean still sad that despite it being repeated multiple times you still cannot grasp that Yoshida only started getting playing time when Anthony got hurt.

I am going to bypass the whole idea that you do not give away 29yo All Star players for nothing just so you can spend $28mill more to sign a free agent.  Thats beyond stupid management

It’s not being too cheap, Fred.  It’s just not being stupid.

Not to mention- his moves are clearly working.  Let it go! The moves Breslow made are clearly working and now you are giving us this whole “Breslow is wrong because he didn’t make MY moves” vibe…

As the winter drew to a close nearly everyone thought that this team needed help offensively. Most felt that we had a glut of outfielders. Who said we should “give away” anyone? Yoshida up until this year wasn’t giving us much of anything. The right move would have been to package him with some prospects then upgrade to a bona fide HR hitter-like Alonso but not necessarily him. Looking at the composition of the team on opening day I think it’s fair to say that most experts thought we needed to do more over the winter. And we could have if the money was made available. Remember: we were 23rd in percentage of revenue spent on salaries. The money was there.

One of the main points in education is to require a student support their claims with evidence or logical details/statements.

Nobody has ever claimed that Rafaela does not have issues with plate discipline. We all know he does and don't refute it. Some have claimed he's improved on his K and BB rates and ratios, but have never said he's become a disciplined batter. Some have claimed he's hit okay, despite being undisciplined and that he has continuously improved his production numbers at bat. This also does not refute the undisciplined position, and is actually trying to "balance" how we can or even should view Ceddanne.

Fred thinks that because he occasionally praises CR after a HR or 3-4 night, he's being "balanced." That position is preponderancely absurd. (Yup- I invented a word, because Fred deserves one especially tailored to his absurdities.)

Rafaela has an extreme chase rate.

Rafaela has poor plate discipline.

That is 99% of what Fred says, and he says that's balanced.

I shoulda listened to you and others and not bothered trying.

Fair and balanced. Deal with it.
Here’s an example of a fair assessment of Rafaela:

And he still has no concept of the strike zone. His chase rate with two strikes is 58%. That stinks.

Fair and balanced…..his play in CF is excellent. He’s having a great year overall. AND there are still areas for improvement.”

There you go….

It's hardly "fair and balanced" when I basically need to force any positive comments out of you regarding Ceddanne.  As I said this may be the only positive comment I've seen from you about one of our best players.  But then again I tend to ignore a lot of your content.

Contraras is such a good first basement.  He is the glue that holds that infield together and has saved so many throwing errors.  The play the other night were he fielded a one hopper as he peddled backwards and still maintained the bag as he caught the ball was a thing of beauty.
