It's about freaking time!

During the current winning streak the Sox OPS is a very good .807, but the ERA is an insane 1.67.  All on the road of course.  Wong caught 4 of the 7 games--in which the other teams scored a total of 5 runs.

If you go by total bases per player, you find a large group--8 players ( Abreu, Rafaela, Contreras, Seighler, Duran, Gonzalez, Yohshida, and Durbin)--who had from 12 to 8 total bases.

Contreras had a terrific 8 rbi's in 4 games, yet the Sox won the other 3 when he had zero hits, runs, etc.

The Sox were 10-17 under Cora (of whom I am a big fan) and are 34-31 with Chad Tracy.  Both managers have had abysmal hitting and good pitching and decent defense.  I'm pretty sure Chad Tracy has had more players on the IL than Alex Cora.

This game is up to the pen. They've really done an amazing job, this year, and seemingly have overperformed for several years, recently.

With so many starters already past their career highs in IP or about to soon, the pen should not be asked to do this, today. Looking at out upcoming schedule, we have two doubleheaders scheduled. Luckily, one is the first game after the ASB followed by 5 straight days with games, so we will need a 6th starter or pen game then, too. The one that really worries me is in August, when we play 19 games in 18 days with no days off.

Sorry but why are you saying the pen should not be asked to do this today?

Just call up Bello already…

Because they are bound to be overtaxed going forward:

2 doubleheader make-up games

3-4 starters maxing out on IP limits pretty soon

It would have been helpful to have yet another SP'er wo can go 5 IP, today.

We do have the ASB coming up, so maybe this is chicken littling it.

They need to just concede that they cannot fix him during the regular season.  Get him an opened and platoon the opener based on the opponent.  Then NYM seems fairly lefty-slanted, so Rivera might be a good opener.  Against more righty-ish teams, maybe Guerrero.

I'm fine with that idea, even if we don't use an opener.

I'm just giving the facts on how it seems like a mental/emotional issue and not physical and not likely mechanical, unless his head messes with his mechanics.

Since are using an opener, today, having Bello come into the second inning and maybe going 5-6 innings would be fine by me. To add Rivera and Bello, we'd have to cut loose Watson or IL him.

Okay by me.

This would be the time, maybe post ASB to bring Bello in and pair with a starter based on the schedule shown above..

The guy can pitch at the MLB level , is not injured physically .  Brayan is under a contract for a few tens of millions more. USE him.

Breslow and the team need to see if he is part of the longer term plan or a dumpster project.  Also show he can pitch in the majors before August 3rd. It's called shopping him, but as a seller, not buyer.

Pass, guy can't throw strikes.

22K and 4 BB in 18.2 IP at WOO shows he may be improving in that area.

BB% in MLB the last 3 seasons:

9.1% in 2024

8.4% in 2025

8.5% in 2026

Bello has not earned his way back. He needs to be a lot better. He crapped the bed all season with the Sox when he started.

Looks like Tracy was right in valuing Monasterio (6 slot) over Duran (7 slot,) but maybe Duran needs to bat 9th or ride the bench.

Getting very weary of the Ks with men in scoring positions.  Jarren is no help watching 3rd strikes go by.

The Ray's total team salary is 102 million.

That's less than our top 5 salary players.
