The one thing I will not compromise on, is my expectation that they treat human beings like human beings, and that doesnt always seem to be the case.

I believe that the breslow regime reminds me of how we treated tito, and thats flat unacceptable to me.  Come in last place.  Make bonehead baseball moves, blah blah blah....But the reason why I am so anti-breslow is the way he sees and treats people.

My buddy was making a good case to me that this overlaps with him being so analytical. Cuz he doesnt see humans as humans, just stats....

I hadnt really linked the 2, and I thought that when people called him bresbot or worried about him being too analytical that more referred to forcing a one size fits all plate approach on all players.....But Im seeing now how it crosses over into jsut not being compassionate....and im feeling less in the minority on my particular issues with bresbot.

Exactly.  When I was a kid, I rooted for players, not stats.  My favorite players? -- not Teddy, but rather Jackie Jensen, Jerry Casales (!), Jimmy Pearsal.   Not the best players (well Jackie had aa couple great years), but just the ones I liked.    I.e., human beings.   Same in the past few years:  Xander, Rafy, JBJ, and now Yoshi and Raphaela.  I don't give a crap about xWAR or fkWAR or salaries or any of that.  These are the humans who (for whatever reason) I want to see play and want to see  succeed.   I don't care if some stat-head cries out "THEY SUCK!" any more than I would choose a friend or a gf based on their height, or relative beauty, or their bank account.

I'm pretty sure that nothing in this franchise before '67 counts. The 2020 season isn't a full year. This could be the worst team of all time.

A convenient view, but not without merit.

I do think the 2020 team was worse, and BTW that was an 84 game season, and we have played 101 games, so far.

The way we are going, now, we may very well end up under .400.

This team has sucked- no doubt.

My first favorite player was Tommy Harper. In the mid to late 70's it was Rick Burleson & Bill Lee. The 80's: Evans and Burks. The 90's: Valantin & Pedro. The 2000's: Pedro, VTek & Wake. The 2010's: JBJ, Koji & Sale and the 2020's: Rafaela & Nate/Chapman

C'mon, 1967 is the first year of the modern Boston Red Sox. It's when they finally turned the page. I guess they had a good 50 year run or so. I really don't believe anything prior to '67 matters. The red seat, Pesky's dumb retired jersey. I'd get rid of all of it.

Jerry Casales was a HR hitting pitcher. Enjoyed Piersall who looked like a ballplayer, and JJ was a great RF'er. Williams was the best of his era at bat.

If David Halberstam is ever afflicted with whatever starts the Zombie Apocalypse, I fully expect him to consume your brain first.

Side note:  Spell check tried to write “Zombie Apologist” instead and now I’m working on how to pitch that to HBO Max…

I'm always doubtful of setting starting points, despite doing it myself. Certainly 1967 marked the change of an era- a long and painful era. I wasn't a baseball fan until 1970 and a Sox fan starting in 1974, so 1967 has less meaning to me than many older fans, here.

We've had some bad teams since 1974, and record wise this is the worst or second worst, but on paper, I'm not sure it's much different from the other last place teams.

Call it the worst? Okay with me.
