it's nearly the same with Monestereo and Masa. Masa hits lefties better than he does. but, by gawd, the anal litics says you have to bat righties against lefties. because, that's why.

The Monasterio choice is okay, but batting him 2nd?

Platooning has been around since at least 1910, Managers were platooning hitters before foul poles became part of the game,  and long before anything considered analytical was done in MLB…

yeah, i know it's been around forever, i'm just bitching that the platooner hits better than the platoonee. because, that's why.

Monasterio has a career .715 against lefties.

Yoshida has a .651 against lefties.

Monasterio at DH, tonight AND batting second!

1. Duran LF

2. Monasterio DH

3. Abreu RF

4. Contreras 1B

5. Rafaela CF

6. Story SS

7. Narvaez C

8. Durbin 3B

9. IKF 2B

Again, no Mayer vs the lefty.

Cora would never put so many RHBs back to back, so maybe more changes are possible/coming.

The more things change the more they stay the same. I don't know what that actually means, but it seemed appropriate here.

the lefty Mayer has 3 hits in 8 at bats against lefties. the righty IKF has 3 hits in 20 at bats. so yeah....play the worst hitter because lefty pitcher. i swear man...

At the same time Mayer is thinking what do I have to do to play everyday. This makes no sense. Get your act together Chaaaad.

Trying to keep Mayer from the IL, I guess.

LMAO!

I believe he's actually capable of getting injured while on the bench. Along with some other current Sox players.

I'm not so sure there is a wide variety of viewpoints between managers and maybe most managers would have trotted out very similar line-up cards night after night.

To me, the main "quirks" Cora had was an overly obsessive need for the L-R-L line-up formation and his unyielding loyalty to veteran players keeping their slot in the line-up and position on the field, despite prolonged slumps or clear drops in defensive skills.

He apparently never even talked to Devers about just the idea of grabbing a 1Bman's mitt and working out there some over a winter or in ST'ing. Now, to be fair, he might have not seen a need to move him, but if that's the case, then I'd have a bigger issue with his thoughts and non actions.

I get what you're saying, Moon, but who the hell is Devers?

Still droning on about Cora not talking to Raffy about playing 1B.🤭. Do you also think Cora is the only manager who had as you call it unyielding loyalty to veteran players?  If you do I got news for you he’s not. You would have a bigger issue with Cora’s thoughts, and non actions?  Like that is supposed to matter.

Mayer is hitting just .616, so it's not like he's earned anything.

Now, when you look at Durbin & IKF, he looks like Ted Williams, but still.

Last 14 days:

.704 Yoshida (.369 last week)

.690 Monasterio (2-3 in last week)

.652 Story (.816 last week)

.451 Mayer (.269 last week)

.371 Durbin (.192 last week)

0-4 IKF (n/a)

No choice looks very good. Thanks Brez!

Yes and yes.  The analyticals do a pretty good job figuring out who can which pitcher well.  I'd bet that, over a full season, that Monasterio will outhit Yoshida against lefties.  TBH, there is a decent chance he will outhit Duran against lefties.

And Cora seemed bound to go L-R-L every game.  I wouldn't go L-L-L, but past that, having a better hitter ahead of a worse hitter, probably works better.

I once again agree.  Mayer has a .451 OPS this month.  Giving him a day off against a tough lefty is a nothing-burger.

My issue was more about batting Monasterio 2nd, but WTH do I know?

He had a good game at the plate.

It's Duran up 1st and Story up 5th or 6th that is killing us, but then again, when you got 5-6 batters under .700, the other options are not pretty.

Cora used to do that with Casas, despite Casas hitting lefties as well as he hit righties.  Some managers are addicted to platooning. But the reality is it’s small market baseball…

Especially when it’s 5 batters who all hit pretty well last year and then all simultaneously s*** the bed at once…
