So has K Marte, sorta.

Maybe that would help to make the trade. Both but especially Marte could bounce back.

I think they just DFAed Tomas. If Duran had an interesting value, maybe this trade would work. But again, if that were the case I wouldn't see Breslow trading him anyways. e.i. we are cooked.

Said all that, the "it's still early" cliche has reached Breslow. It's not early anymore and we still suck, and more likely keep sucking.

If nobody was beating down the door for Duran a few months ago, I doubt anyone is now.

To me, the hope that he might return to his 2024 or even 2025 form is probably worth enough to keep him over trading him for peanuts.

Nobody wants Yoshida or Story, even if we pay all but $6-8M of their deals- maybe not even $4-5M remaining. (Maybe not even $2M!)

Our value pieces are Gray and Chapman.

If you were Arizona, would you trade today's Marte for today's Duran straight up? My guess they would. And Marte is not peanuts in my book.

If AZ is out of it near the deadline, we might have a shot, but will likely be sellers not buyers.

They aren't in salary dump mode, and I don't think they'd take Duran and Bello, even if we paid their full boats.

Duran- NO!

I think he may be viewed as a headcase by some GMs, past prime by others and maybe both by more than we think.

Problem is beyond Duran now. Anthony seems to be made of crystal, so you'll need a solid OF like Duran until the kid prove us he can play a season without injuries.

I don't think so.

IMO all Duran's problems are above his shoulders. If he plays in a small-mid market team It will help him to regain his confidence without all the pressure a big market team like Boston carries by default. So Arizona could be an interesting fit for him especially since they DFAed Tomas. .

I can't know what any one GM might be thinking. I'm sure he'd have traded Tomas for Duran... LOL.

One thing that got me talking KMarte so much, this past winter was his relatively low pay:

26:$15M, 27:$12M, 28:$20M, 29:$22M, 30:$22M,    31:$11.5M player option

I agree he thinks too much, but Boston has not bothered him at all in 24-25.

Only if one thinks he will be effective for the length of his contract.  Someone like Tatis will be paid until he is 35, at which point, he might still be making a contribution.  Guys like Machado and Bogaerts might be out of the league for 3-4 years before their contracts end.  Age matters.

I doubt Marte will be good for three years, but even if he is, you're effectively still paying him $34M a year.

Lawlar was moved to the OF back in October in the Dominican Winter League. They weren't happy with his defense and had benched him in the regular season for it. It was clear to me back then that he was being moved to CF and that they didn't want Duran.

I was not aware.  I thought they still had him in the INF…

If he's still good for all the years, how is it $34M/yr.

We would owe him $102M.  If he is only good for three years, which I doubt, then he costs us $34M pr.

Okay. I thought you were starting with 2027 and assumed KMarte would not accept the $11.5M player option at the end.
