Kind of a strange contract extension given by DD to C Sanchez. He was only in  year two of a 5 year extension at a very team friendly rate ($47M/5.)

DD basically handed out $60M for his ages 34 and 35 season with a $44.5M option for age 36 season ($1M buyout.)

The Phillies already have Wheeler & Nola under control to their age 37 seasons and Luzardo to age 34.

He looks like a good health candidate, imao.  Easy thrower.

No, Monasterio is not a lock. I stated "Monasterio or Eaton". I think it's a toss up and since Cora might have a big say, maybe he wants Eaton.

I like Monasterio as a Mayer platoon bat more, but not by much.

sp.com has this projected bench: Wong, Yoshida, IKF & Monasterio.

Eaton over Monasterio changes things very little.

Doesn't make much sense to keep Eaton on the roster as they don't really need 6 OFers. Monasterio is a better fit IMO.

Eaton can play 3B, too, but we have that covered.

I agree.

I'm not sure why notin calls it a "no brainer."

Sure, but there is a bigger need for a platoon at 2b. Only being able to field one IF position isn't all that helpful. Unless they really believe in Eaton's bat over Monasterio's, it's probably Monasterio.

Notin calls it a no brainer because that's how we talk about things on here. Even if it's a 80/20 decision, he may call it a no brainer.

Angel Bastardo might end up back with BOS as he is not making the roster as a 2024 Rule 5 pick that misses 2025 with an injury.

I guess the Thaiss decision is so minor, no reporting was necessary.

No surprises so far on the roster, but I didn’t think Masa would still be there as a backup whatever.

That was never a question to me.🤔

I guess not after you’ve tried to get rid of Masa for two years now.🤭

This is why I wanted to trade him.

One year after watching what happens when you lack MLB-caliber starting players on the bench - a cost-prohibitive option - and folks try to unload having one.

Yoshida isn’t much of an OF, but if one of the OF do get hurt, I’d rather see Masataka in the lineup every day than Eaton…

Ah well.

Eaton was more useful and Monasterio redundant, but it’s the last roster spot.

I suppose the good news is it appears they will discontinue platooning Abreu.  Unless they plan to continue platooning him with even shittier outfield defense…

Yeah!  This team is already devoid of great hitters! We should unload the good ones too!

Didn't do a good enough job! 😤

Monasterio was the no brainer decision to be sure.

93 OPS+ is good to you?

No, I call it a no brainer because I lack brains…

That's because you're an avid madstork reader.

We have yet to see the Full Masataka!

He just plays better in a different hemisphere unfortunately. We'll never get the good version here.

I do miss him.  As trolls go, he was predictably amusing.

Yoshida really is a very good hitter.  He’s only shown it for partial seasons in Boston and his shoulder injury clearly hampered a lot, but he can be a difference maker that Eaton’s can simply not be…

You appear to have a complexion issue.  Might I recommend a good dermatologist?  Or a cheap coroner?
