I think signing extensions is a lot different than luring prospective FA's. What are the prominent offensive FAs that SEA has brought in since moving ballparks 25 years ago?

Ichiro (does he really count?)

Adrian Beltre

Nelson Cruz

Cano

Richie Sexson

Anyone else?

Can we count Big Sexsie twice?

Seattle fans still complain about the Mariners signing Chone Figgins to a four-year contract coming off his 7.7 bWAR season in 2009.

You guys are forgetting the second biggest signing behind Garver:

Juan Nicasio for $17M/2 back in 2018.

How about the days of Chone Figgins at $36M/4 back in '10? He's their 5th biggest non pitching FA signing, ever!

29 DRS at 3B? His previous high was 5. wRC+ was under 120.

That WAR was massively inflated TBH. He was never an outstanding defensive player and then became the third best defender in MLB?

Kazuma Okamoto will be posted. He plays apparently gold glove first base and has a huge pull rate in Japan. Right around 50 percent. I think the Sox will be heavy in on him.

Gold Glove first baseman with right-handed pull power and 11% K-rate -- now, is that really the kind of player that fits in with this Red Sox roster?

This quote intrigues: "profile that mirrors the disciplined style Boston's hitting department has been preaching throughout the organization."

(musing: writer either works for the Sox or isn't a Sox fan, since the org obviously needs less preaching and more teaching)

He won two NPB awards for his defense at 3b and one for 1b. If the Sox target an NPB guy, they should go for him because of his approach at the plate and ability to field a position.

Nah, the Sox's current approach is to take the Murakami who will k like Rob Deer and play even worse defense.

Sounds like a dodger to me.

JH has the money. Can't leave it on the table now that they are getting to the playoffs.

Right? Maybe?

I think that no amount of money JH could offer could compete with the opportunities that arise from being associated with ohtani.

It's next to impossible to factor in those things on here.

Agreed. Also if we are competing with dodgers for the Japanese 1b/3b, max muncy is doing us a solid right now. Not like they have a DH spot to move mucy and/or freeman

And he will make many say “maybe Yoshida really wasn’t so bad…”

This thread's discussion of Seattle's free agent signing has been limited to hitters.

The Mariners signed left-hander Robbie Ray to a five-year, $115 million contract in November 2021. The M's signed lefty Yusei Kikuchi to a three-year, $43 million contract in January 2019.

More likely he spends on a bigger table that can hold more money…

And Murakami is also LHB. Get me the RHB and you can still keep Masa at DH for now.

He's definitely got big table money. I'm still using the table that came with my first house.

Most likely that RHH will be Bregman.  Hes definitely the pre-race front runner…

I believe it's enticing for pitchers to go to SEA. Is it for hitters?

Yeah, but where's the upgrade the offense needs?

The Dodgers could simply not exercise their team option on Muncy for 2026.

Although at $10mill, I would think they exercise it…

Hes hitting the ball well this postseason for them

He’s worth $10mill even if he wasn’t.

Its an option they do have, but I would agree that it will be surprising if they don’t exercise it…

I started to write about Kenji Johjima but decided to ignore signings in the pre-Dipoto era.

The betting odds favor a guy named Tristan Casas as our 2026 1Bman with Romy/KC as depth.

The odds favor Yoshida/Romy at DH for 2026.

The odds favor Mayer at 3B or 2B for 2026.

The slot that is wide open is the one Mayer does not play: 2B or 3B.
