I think he's gettable this year realistically for the first time since in a Padres uniform- https://www.essentiallysports.com/mlb-baseball-news-padres-in-trouble-as-insider-reveals-worrying-reason-behind-potential-fernando-tatis-jr-trade/ “Well, they got somebody’s money, backloaded contracts. Who are they’ve lost money to in the last few years? When you talk to GMS around the land, they say these guys are in big-time trouble. They’re losing money even though they’re back in the place. So you can’t trade many… Machado, you can’t trade Xando Bogarts Tatia’s contract as big as it is. It’s actually movable,” The Sox are the team who makes the most sense, despite having too many outfielders. The Padres can probably help the Sox out with that. My proposal- Wilyer Abreu, Kristian Campbell, Bryan Bello, maybe a prospect for Tatis. The Padres save 17 million AAV. The Sox take that on. The Padres get starting pitching, which they're desperate for. They need a outfielder desperately. Wilyer fills that. Campbell gets them younger, gives them some upside. Maybe another prospect to sweeten the pot, helps. The Sox can turn around and trade Duran for pitching to replace Bello. Maybe for someone with more upside. (Cole Ragans).

A Realistic Look at the 2026 Red Sox: Part I

I'd be willing to ship Garcia to Arizona and Perales to Cincinnati. I'd be okay with paying Arenado 3-4 million a year next two years. I'm pretty sure Arizona wants out of the Marte contract. Probably a good way to get out of it. I think Arizona has a second base prospect close to the majors. Highly regarded. Use that money to get a free agent first baseman leftover from Marte from Arizona's perspective. -
A Realistic Look at the 2026 Red Sox: Part I

I got a random trade thought in my head today. Got to get off my chest. I want Matt McClain and Hunter Greene in the same deal. Three teamer- Boston gets Matt McClain and Greene Arizona gets Bryan Bello Cincinnati gets Jarren Duran, Kentel Marte, J Garcia (password) or Luis Perales. Matt McClain plays short stop for the Sox. Gets him to a 4-5 win player. Story to second base. Trade Jordan Hicks for Nolan Arenado. Have him platoon with Mayer at third base. Good option behind Mayer because of injuries. Reds get 2 top of the order bats. Reds replace their pitching depth after losing free agents starting pitching this off-season. -

Batting average is a bad stat to prove a good hitter or bad hitter. It just kind of proves he can't rely on contact because batting average isn't a part of his game. One less tool. The hit tool is a tool. He draws a walk. He puts up a good at bat at times. He has some power (we don't know the ceiling because he never stays healthy). Your post kind of proved my point. He has one good streak over 3 weeks long in a major league career. He was suspect before the injury. His injury is the type of injury that ends careers. Which is the reason why I cited John Valentine. All the tendons detached from his knee. One set back and he's missing 2026. I don't want the Sox falling into the trap of thinking Cassas is any part of any plans. Forget him. It's almost easier to non tender him because the Sox need 40 man roster spots this off-season. They have a lot of talent that needs to be protected from the rule 5 draft. They need some free agent additions. (Left handed reliever, Bregman, first base). You non tender Houck and Casas, you have around 5 million saved. That gets you around a Steven Matz re-signed, who's doing more for you in 2026. One bird in the hand beats two in the stone. The saying. This is the kind of post that got me banned from Soxprospects.com forum. They don't want to hear this. -

Also I don't know why Casas keeps being brought up. He's going to be 26. He's an unathletic slow moving DH at this point. A guy who needs to slug his way to playing time. He's hardly hit in his time in MLB. He has a career .241 batting average. One hot stretch in 3 years. He's injury prone and he's coming off a knee injury similar to the John Valentine injury. I don't expect anything from Casas ever again. He's a folk lore legend at this point. -

It doesn't really matter what Cora believes though. It's up to Breslow. The reason why Devers moved to DH last year and wasn't at third base to start the year last year was because of Breslow. The Red Sox front office rightly put a stop to Devers running and ruining this organization because of his pride. He got out of control and got traded because of it. Story is a guy who follows orders. He wanted to play short stop, but it won't take long to explain to him that he isn't that guy anymore. He's probably aware of it because of age and injuries. I think he'll take a lot more self awareness than Devers did. Hell, any player with a brain would. f***ing Devers. The Sox are looking to get a guy like him, he played first base with a positive DRS and defensive numbers at first. What an ahole. He sabotaged the whole 5 year plan for the organization. Now the Sox have a s*** Jordan Hicks contract and Harrison. The Sox have to wait for Bryce Harper to finally get available and hope the Phillies take Yoshida in a deal back. -

Well I'd give up Bello, but I'm out on Tolle and Early too. Bello is a number 4 starter on a good contract. The way he bombed in the playoffs was a definite letdown. Sure one start, but he couldn't make it past the second inning. Gives me no hope that he's nothing more than a guy who just eats innings who can have a great ERA if your infield defense is superb. If not he bombs, because he can't strike people out anymore and walks as many guys as he strikes out (in the second half of the season).

They should get both Okamoto and Bregman if they want to improve the infield defense like they say they want to. -

Kazuma Okamoto will be posted. He plays apparently gold glove first base and has a huge pull rate in Japan. Right around 50 percent. I think the Sox will be heavy in on him. -

The Reds need a CF pretty badly. TJ Friedl was -10 DRS and 1 OAV. He makes the plays hit at him, but he has zero range for a CF. He's a LF. So I got to say, if there's one team that can pull off a Hunter Greene trade, it'll be the Sox. Duran is similar to TJ Friedl in limited time in CF, but was a stalwart in 2024 in CF. So I guess it depends on their evaluation on Duran in CF. I'd pull the trigger on Perales, Campbell, and Duran. Campbell probably end up in RF for them. Not ideal, but it's better than RF Fenway. I'm skeptical the Reds do it, but the outfield market is shot. The Reds need outfielders. They need a RF and a CF pretty desperately. If they stuck a gun to my head and wanted Abreu over Duran, I'd still do it, but it would feel less great. The Sox need RF for Abreu, he's been a great fit there since they got him. This team was way worse in September when he went down. I don't think there's much coincidence to that.

I can see the Astros having interest in Harrison. That actually might be a fair trade straight up. The Astros need cheap controllable starting pitching. I don't see another team in the league matching up for Paredes. A lot of teams don't like the fact that he doesn't hit the ball hard a lot. Kind of like the same way they brush off Cody Bellinger. But for the Sox, he's perfect. There hasn't been a guy who has pulled balls this much in the air as a RHB since Edwin Encarnacion. His defense at third base really cratered this year. I'd prefer him at first base, but if it's a one year thing for third base I guess I could live with it. He's not exactly going to be more athletic coming off a bad hamstring injury, too. Breslow wants to really improve the infield defense. Mentioned that in the closing press conference to end the year. -

Yeah I see that changing a bit this off-season. They're going to re-sign Josh Naylor. They have no one to replace him, and they need his LHB. The Mariners better spend money this off-season, because their window to win is already closing with their control of their starting pitching. Like most of their starters have 2 years left of control. They need to push and win now or they'll be forever in purgatory.
