Good pitching can cause that.

Anybody can look good against our offense . Idk if the Sox wanna play Cleveland  or Detroit but I dont. I rather face the Yankees no matter how hot they’re.

Early pitched well.  A couple of hits in the 5th.

And a 2 out walk to the #9 hitter to load the bases for Jones.   A mistake but Early  was good enough for a win opportunity except the backups cannot hit much better than the regulars.

Sox are only interested from the 7th inning on, and prefer to play from behind.

This may be just observational inattention but why  do the Sox hitters ( all of them) not occasionally hit a high , not so deep flyball into the monster seats or down the RF line wrap around the Pesky monument ?

Where are the HR's , and don't say in SF ?   They will be needed in the playoffs.

You're looking at a playoff team that has just two hitters above  20 HR's ( Story at 25; Abreu at 22).  RBI's are worse;  Story comes close at 96 but will not reach 100.  Second is Duran at  83.  Bregman missed too much time to be a real factor and has not hit well since return to play on 1.75 legs

2 runs in 5 innings isn't exactly chopped liver.

No. but he did let them up, right after I praised him.

His 2025 regular season ERA is 2.33.

Only 3 Sox batter have enough PAs to qualify for awards. That is part of it.

Bregman has 18 and would project to 25+ with 650 PAs.

Abreu would project to 30+. Ref too.

Narvaez over 20.

Romy & Anthony would be about 17.

We do hit a ton of XBHs, and an XBH% of over 9% is pretty good:

10%: Romy, Ref, Duran, Mayer, Abreu & Narvaez

9%: Bregman, Rafaela, Anthony

8%: Story

League average is 7.7%

The league average ISO is .162. Sox are at...

.227 Abreu

.219 Ref

.189 Bregman

.185 Duran

.180 Narvaez

.178 Romy

.173 Mayer

.171 Anthony & Story

.165 Rafaela

When Murphy walks a guy, the pitches aren't even close.

He should be past the shaking off the rust phase, but his BB/9 is about two higher than his rookie year (3.2.)

This offense is a disgrace. They got the pitching to make a deep run but don’t havr the offense.

They could have bolstered the offense if our GM hadn’t whiffed at the TD.

It’s a meaningless game. I doubt the team is highly motivated.

They  wanna get that 6 seed. Big mistake in my opinion.

To play the Yankmees? Not sure who they play at #6 but I am sure it’s a best of three with all the games away.

5 seed will play Toronto or the Yankees (whichever doesn’t win the East).

6 seed will play Detroit or Cleveland (whichever wins the Central).

Why did I jinx him?

2 ER in 5 IP ain't too shabby.

Kind of a dull game with all those regulars getting a day of rest--which was a good idea.

I think you are seeing Skubal tomorrow as Tigers try to get division

If he starts tomorrow, he would normally not pitch until Friday and thereby miss the first postseason round.  If he doesn't start tomorrow, he will be well rested for the first game of the postseason.

I don't think you see Skubal tomorrow.  The Tigers are in and they need the Guardians to lose to even have a chance at the Division.  Having him available for the wild card round is far more important for them.  Pitching him is too big a chance.
