Only surprise in the lineup is Abreu who struck last night 4 times with lots of swings and misses. I would prefer Eaton but happily admit my ignorance.  Great point above about Gausman's last 3 starts.

The only good news about tonight is that FredLynn has declared the Jays the winner well before the first pitch.  😁

Giolito might not have the world's best lineup going for him, but he does have a pretty good defense.

Both teams rested yesterday..

I realize the Robo-Ump case has been argued ad nauseum, so I will simply vent here as MLB announces the WORST solution--one that combines all the negative aspects of human umps with all the negative aspects of Roboump.   Nothing like delaying things for an idiotic 'challenge', which will lead announcers to say equally idiotic things '' GREAT challenge!" or "Do you want to use your challenge now?"  Who gives a crap.  If you are going to judge balls and strikes electroniclly (through the challenge) and judge umpires by how well their calls reflect the electronic call, JUST GO WITH ROBO-UMPS for God's sake.

Screwball Skubal pitching for Detroit vs Guardians tonight .  That would set him up for another start on the Final Sunday vs the Red Sox .     Crochet goes tomorrow and doesn't prosper on short rest , especially after he will go over 200 IP tomorrow.

Don't fool yourself by thinking this WC race won't come down to the last day.   If you have been a Sox fan for as long as many of us have, you know that's where it ends up, bottom of 9th down 1 run with Wong, Rafaela and Hamilton due up.

Granted that the Sox bullpen has been overall a plus in the second half, especially Whitlock and Chapman.

Looking at the loooong list of pitchers Cora has had to use in relief this year, I note that 30 losses are credited to relievers.     For a reliever to get the loss they had to enter the game ahead or tied and then give up the deciding run ., although the subsequent reliever may have given up the hit or walk that scored the runner the loser put on base.   Weissert leads the relievers with 6 losses .

How about if that was only 25 losses ?  Could be in line to clinch the WC tonight and probably be playing BJ's for 1st place.

Duran continues his tradition of not reaching base in the 1st inning. He's made it into an art form.

My goodness, but 30 losses sound like a lot.  On the other hand, the Sox have lost 71 games, which leaves 41 for the starters. For most of the season the Sox had 5 starters and 8 relievers for any given game.  The Sox rotation pitched 715 innings and the bullpen 680 innings. So proportionately I think the bullpen has done OK.

Story with his daily error

Little league ball

Not to excuse the terrible throw but if Lowe can’t even scoop a throw like that what does he offer this team?  He clearly can’t hit. What a complete waste of an acquisition.   I’d rather see Toro

Agreed

Lowe needs to pick that

Biggest issue was losing a bunch of extra inning games on the road, often not even getting the runner off of second.  Pretty hard to blame any reliever for a loss in that situation

Second issue was going 1-5 against the Angels.

That was an in between hop.  The short hop and the high hop are much emote routine plays..
