If you look at the OPS numbers for the FLOPS after the first three batters in today's lineup the only player with an OPS over .690 is NATE EATON, a part time player. Thats five guys below .690. Its no wonder we can't score runs.

Wonder who is responsible for providing the team with talented players....hmmm.

The Sox medical staff.

Well....now the Guardians are up 3-1 over the Tigers. If things hold its a one game lead for the last WC. The FLOPS are sinking like a rock. I put their playoff chances at maybe 20% due to a difficult remaining schedule and the fact that we just aren't a good team deserving of Oct baseball.

Breslow failed.

Dull and lifeless. Bello gone. like Gio. early in a key game.

Did Abreu fail in his rehab at a key time?

Talking about injuries, which every team has=excuses.

Playoff odds per FanGraphs:

I'll contact them. Look for a revision by tonight.

Do you really believe that we have a 90% chance at making the playoffs? Cleveland is peaking, we are tanking. By the end of the day its one game in the lost column separating us.

Interesting note that Story can actually opt out after season end

Combined with Bregman's opt out. and Mayer's lack of availability  '26 could be a new set of issues

Not all teams are injured equally. Are you trying to say that the Yankees losing Anthony Volpe is the same as the Sox losing Roman Anthony?

Story’s recent injury history is severe enough Hes be much wiser just staying in Boston.

I expect Giolito to opt out and I expect Story and Bregman to stay…

I was just looking to see what it said. I'm not entirely sure how they do their math and our thoughts as fans are purely vibes based. I think we tend to be more nervous than mathematical models which would suggest the Sox going .500 here on out.

Impressive inning by Tolle.

Not a long history of coming out of the pen for him. Good to see.

To play 75% of a MLB 162 game schedule you need to play in 121 games (rounded down from 121.5).

Right now the Sox have 3 players--Duran, Story, and Rafaela--who have played in 148, 148, and 146 games.  No other Sox players will get to 121.

No other AL team has just 3 players assured of playing in 75% of the games.  The Jays, Yankees, Tigers, Astros, and Guardians, all have 6 or more players sure of playing in 75%.  And the Mariners have 5 who, however, have played in 151, 150, 149, 148, and 130 games  All 5 are very likely to play in at least 85% of the Guardians games.

Here are the names and OPS's of 6 Sox players not playing in 75% (121 games or more) of the Sox games:  Devers .905, Refsnyder .863, Anthony .859, Gonzalez .821, Bregman .820, Abreu, .811, The top 3 OPS's will all finish having played in less than 50% of the Sox games this season.

I think it's pretty obvious that Cora gets the blame for the lack of good hitting on the Sox.  He simply didn't play his best guys.

Yes, but I feel good that Cora regularly rest his players to keep them fresh, until our back are to the wall.

Does Cora understand that HE ALONE WASTED CROCHET'S GREAT SEASON, because he sucked managing his personnel? If we don't make the playoffs it ON HIM.

How long are we going to baby his decision making prowess? He's a cheater and a loser.

I’m saying that every team has injuries they need to deal with. The Yankmees lost Cole for the entire season and they are right on the heels of the Jays for the AL pennant. Judge also missed time and can barely reach the infield from RF.
Breslow knew we had injuries. What did he do to address them?

.333 or 3-6 will be more likely based on the energy level observable in today's game. .

Just not seeing anything to create some momentum. The last 9 outs have been very quiet.

Hard to say what each day will bring with this lineup or pitching. Maybe Abreu doesn't even suit up the rest of the season.

Story with another routine grounder butchers the throw to give up a 2 out run.

Pretty sad

League lead in PO and A though!

A path forward in the playoffs looks like a pipe dream here.

It may be better for them to miss with another September fade if it forces better off season actions.

Reaching WC#3, losing 2x in Seattle or Houston will be an excuse to not address weak spots like backup catcher and 1B

I think they still have the inside track on the playoffs unless they absolutely fall apart. However, it's not looking good for them to do any sort of damage in the playoffs. We won't really hear much about Roman getting healthy and Abreu still isn't back yet. If the pitching is still looking tired, they are absolutely screwed. Depending on the matchup, they could be luck to win a game in the WC. They just don't seem ready to play heightened playoff baseball. Will this give them meaningful "playoff experience?" IDK.

What a complete shitshow by this team. This is why they don’t deserve to make the playoffs. I am glad i didn’t know until now that there was an early game today.

It is a poor, weak performance all around but Bello led it and the hitters want to just go to TB for the sun
