I don't know. Here's my question: what percentage of walk offs are won by the home team?

Is that like the trivia question “ if a plane crashes exactly on the border of the US and Canada where do they bury the survivors”?

Despite the loss, still a heckuva game.  Hamilton is a clown.  Can't steal 2b and can't bunt.

That was a double play ball hit to Bregman except it bounced over his head/glove/arm.

Not sure I understand why he had the infield in?  If the bunt gets down the runner gets to third anyway and that’s all that matters.  I figured with the walk they were setting up for the DP. Not sure what food it would do to take your defense out of position to field a bunt that if put in play gets the runner to third.

I’m not going to blame him on the steal; Bogaerts got away with a veteran trick.

There was no excuse for the bunts.  It was utter stupidity to try to bunt for a base hit (3 times).

No one's ever accused Cora of being a genius. At least, not seriously.

Just following the fearless leader's orders.

Not sure what that means; steal was the play there and the Padres made a play (major league players sometimes do that); Bogaerts got away with pushing him off.

The bunts were the right call but Hamilton was too stupid to know what the word sacrifice means.

Bunting after two strikes came from Cora. Cora must have been impressed by Hammy's first 2 efforts.

True, but do you seriously think if he’d had him swing away, it would have made any difference?

Have you seen the Padres’ bullpen?  Not sure that’s a great plan…

Yeah, Cap'n Obvious was right about the pitch count, but the part about the bullpen came back to haunt him.

A trick he later repeated with Rafaela.  It seems it's ok to semi-push a baserunner off the bag.

No. A thousand times no.

Of course not.  When your OPS is as low as Hamilton's, you are obligated to practice your bunting.

One thing that kind of amazed me about the Padres pitching last night is how many of them liked throwing changeups.  Almost no one on the Sox is a changeup artist.  Bello comes the closest.

Makes me think of the ABMC.

Under a mountain of legal and insurance paperwork…

Padres’ bullpen is insane. Very few teams ever have two All Star relievers; the Padres had 3 this year.  And then they added Mason Miller.

This bullpen might rival the 2015 Royals…

That is amazing!

Here is how our two pens compare:

IP  SDP 11th & BOS 13th

fWAR: SDP 1st (6.2) & BOS 5th (4.5)

ERA-: SDP 1st (76) & BOS 2nd (79)

OPS Against:

.630 SDP

.643 BOS

Are those stats with or without Alcala (who is no longer with the Sox). And once Slaten returns the ERA should get reduced further.

All inclusive. I'm sure the Padres had their Alcala. Guess what? As good as the Sox pen has been, this year, and surprising, too, they have 10 RP'ers with worse ERAs than Alcala (and 3 had more IP in the pen): ONE IS SLATEN!

6.59 Hendriks, 5.56 Kelly, 5.40 ICampbell, 5.25 Hicks, 5.06 Criswell, 4.15 Guerrero, 3.86 Wink, 3.47 Slaten, 3.38 Dobbins & Newcomb. (I did not count Bello's 3.60 in 5IP, so it's really 11.)

Slaten has brought down the team ERA more than Alcala!

Here are our OPSA leaders w 70+ PAs Against. (Matz is at .298 in 14 PAs)

.403 Chapman (171 PAs Against)

.465 Slaten 90 (IL)

.530 Guerrero 72 (IL)

.565 Whitlock 220

.566 Bernardino 185 (demoted)

.614 Murphy 87 (had a rough time, last outing)

.649 Weissert 204 (2nd most- thanks DUGO!)

.694 Wilson 148

.788 Kelly 103 (IL)

.791 Newcomb 85 (traded)

(Alcala has 66 PAs Against and is at .886- pretty much the worst on the team, except for 4 guys with 4-15 PAs against.)

We are right: he sucks!

I am surprised to see that Slaten was actually worse than average. Kelly and Campbell weren’t impressive but Hendricks was hurt. And contrary to popular opinion I haven’t yet given up on Hicks. If he somehow gets into a groove and can find the K zone he will be effective.
We will see how Slaten does when/if he returns.
