This deadline was pretty unusual, with so many teams making a flurry of moves at the end.

There have been many deadlines that the Sox did even less than getting a May and a Matz.

May's numbers are not enthralling, but I like to think that Breslow and Bailey see something they can work with.

It was "oh s***, we gotta get this guy or we're getting nobody." May was getting kicked from the Dodgers rotation and the Dodgers run out of guys every year. I liked the Matz move, I'm dubious on the May one.

I suspect they are not heartbroken with Devers' departure.

That was a month and a half ago at this point. 🫠

BTV says it was a massive overpay by the Sox. i don't know if he had options, so he may have been a DFA candidate had Brez not overpaid.

I don't know if he would have been DFA'd. It was an overpay even if they do re-sign him in the offseason. Even if they can unlock something in him, it's going to take time to do. There's only two months left before the playoffs. They couldn't unlock anything in Buehler. Why assume it'll happen here? He's a 5th starter rental. Is he even much of an upgrade over internal options?

I'm hoping Bailey might have a useful tweak for May.

I doubt he was a DFA candidate…

What internal options?

Fitts? Criswell? May hasn't been very good this year. It's been his worst year so far in the bigs.

"Massive" is a gross exaggeration.

May has 8 Quality Starts and 9 50+ Game Scores in 18 starts.  Very mediocre, but at least he's had some good games.

Needs to have a few down the stretch for the trade to be worthwhile. Unless they are finally banishing Buehler from the rotation (they won't), it doesn't move the needle for me. There's a chance he's left off a postseason roster.

We could use a right-handed reliever, though.

If other teams are getting Brock Stewart (0.7 fWAR) for James Outman. I'd say Dustin May (0.8 fWAR) for James Tibbs and Zach Ehrhard is a huge overpay. Outman for Tibbs and Ehrhard would have been a fleecing!

I can think of a few young guys that could help out.

according to BTV, Ehrhard was enough for May.

BTV doesn't take into account the magical properties of what Bailey could possibly due to any acquired pitcher though! 😎

Meh.  Breslow needed an arm, and May has a positive fWAR.  Tibbs and Erhard have yet to play an inning of MLB.  Plus SoxProspects is not impressed.

I don't care.  Neither of those guys has made it to The Show, and May has a positive fWAR.

For at least two years we have been bombarded with a great infielder/hitter Mayer would be.  Now we've seen him and confirmed yes, he is very injury prone.  Plus so far the can't hit MLB pitching.  The Sox are 8-2 since Mayer went on the IL.

Who the heck is/are BTV?

They said it was an overpay!

I think Breslow scraped the bottom of the barrel to get the M&M twins because had he not done that he would have been accused of doing absolutely NOTHING-which is pretty much what he did anyway. The announcers last night stated, like most Sox fans, that they were "disappointed" by the TD results. Wonder if they will still be announcing.......or if Henry will fire them.

For two plus years I've said that he's likely to get injured. I was including Mayer in trades last offseason. Not sure what Mayer has to do with the May trade TBH.

Henry is probably disappointed too. The announcers don't typically do anything but toe the company line... Hint. Hint.

Henry dumped Bloom because of how he dithered at the deadlines in '22 and '23. Breslow isn't doing any better.

No, but you know why he was gotten?

Hint: think Puerto Rico

"Oh no im running out of time, and ill get crucified if i come away with just matz." This dude we got from devers has been stinkin since we got him, not a huge cost

Now we can say we got "multiple arms" (internally to clubhouse and externally to media/fans)

He might be an upgrade to our 5th starter, maybe his sutff plays up out of the pen....

My guess is that Breslow took his marching orders from Henry and as a result he basically did nothing to improve the club, probably because Henry told him to be conservative. This sort of crap generally flows DOWNHILL.

I am ok seeing if he is better, especially since the Sox have all those options available and there will likely be enough innings to go around.  With maybe even some for Sandlin, Tolle, and/or Early…

For Tibbs? Im fine with it

As your main deadline get: disappointing

Two separate bars for me

Im glad they gave up a top 10 prospect (who really wasnt) even if it was for Rich Hill.  So sick of the scared money refusal to stick their neck out there when dealing
