No one really knows what the Twins are going to do, probably especially the Twins. They're a middling contender, just far enough out of the WC race to consider selling, but close enough to still be in it. They're a pretty good team when things are clicking. But they're also on the verge of being sold - maybe...? - and no one knows what they're thinking.

Ryan has quietly become one of the best pitchers in baseball and still has 2.5 years of control. He hasn't really been a workhorse but none of his injuries have been concerning, either. He had a weird shoulder/back thing last year that knocked him out, but had no lingering effects and did not involve his elbow or the important part of the shoulder. The year before, the injury was a hamstring, or groin, or something else equally benign.

TWINSDAILY.COM

He’s been the team’s best pitcher and one of the most reliable arms in the AL. But with contenders circling, could Joe Ryan net the Twins a franchise-altering return?

an injury-riddled pitcher. that's exactly what the Sox FO loves.

He's 27th in IP since 2022 and has never started less than 23 games in the last 4 seasons (assuming he gets over 23, this year.) He's 28th in GS'd, too.

No current of past Sox pitcher is above him on GS'd and only Pivetta has slightly more IP, but some were in relief.

Go get him bres-slow!!!!
after you secure painter from the Phillies!!!

I'm thinking the best trade might be Abreu & Buehler (+$) to PHI.

Abel and some Sox prospects (like Romero, Sandlin & Early) to MIN

Joe Ryan to BOS

If we swap Abel for Painter, we'd need to give prospects to PHI but less to MIN.

Only pitched over 150 IP once in his career. 🤨

The problem with DD is that he traded a lot of guys and really wasn't able to add as much back on a year to year basis. For example, the Sox system was ranked bottom 5 in almost every publication in 2020 AFTER the Mookie trade when they added Wong and Downs (ranked top 50).

DD did draft Duran, Houck. Casas and Crawford.  But I believe they remain the only Major Leaguers he drafted with Boston.  Unless you want to count Dalbec.

At this point in time, that seems low.  But it might be fairly normal or even a good amount.  I am NOT researching into that.  Moon?

Probably also not enough to get Joe Ryan…

i get it, but DD never really traded anyone that amounted to anything. and fans still give him a hard time about "decimating the farm", when in reality, he should have been slammed for not "building the farm".

That's just semantics IMO. You use prospects to supplement the MLB roster or acquire MLB talent. He just let the well run dry for one great run. By not maintaining the farm with new additions, he decimated the farm. He traded, but never reloaded.

It's not as easy for teams that come in first place or make the postseason a lot. They don't get the high draft picks like doormats or indoor/outdoor carpets in basements. Or treads on tanks -- the preferred transportation for many small market clubs.

It's not the NFL. You can draft well after winning the WS. Just ask the Dodgers. They win a lot and always have a very good farm system.

He also signed IFAs Rafaela & Bello.

Many of these draftees and IFA guys look better than the bigger named players he traded away.
