You got that wrong, dead wrong.  Cora told Raffy to embrace DH, which he did.  When Casas went down, Cora wisely never asked Devers to play 1b, which has proven to be exactly the right decision.

Breslow had his head up his whatever when he bypassed Cora to tell Raffy to play 1b.

Well too bad. The situation changed. Management had to change their opinion and Devers should still do the best he can wherever they put him.

Are you telling that if Devers plays 1B he won’t hit well? Really?

said that, IMO he would do fine at 1B but I like him at DH, but that’s another discussion.

I mean it might not make him hit worse directly but it does give him a higher injury chance. He gets banged up a lot defensively and has suffered multiple shoulder injuries which definitely impacts his hitting. I like him at DH

I think the way bigger issue is roster construction. You can’t really build a “ winning culture” with the way the pitchers this team has employed the last few seasons. It’s not Like Devers is rubbing off on the young players. Duran, Hamilton, Mayer and others play extremely hard. Devers is what he is. An exceptional hitter, a Yankee killer and a bad fielder who doesn’t always hustle.

Yeah, as I say the winning culture is only one of several issues, but still players should do what their coaches tell them.

This bum can’t even hold a 6 run lead in 9th. Thanks Stock for making Chapman need to be used…

He was trying to dot the strike zone with a 6 run lead lol

Send his ass to AAA again.

Chapman has been absolutely filthy signing

There have been some positives this year. Chapman is one.

Or Goodwill; whichever's closer.

Just leave them in New York. Yankees can have them if they want them

Does Roman Anthony actually exist or is he an AI production?

Somewhere I read they are going to call him (if so) until June 18th or after otherwise they would lose 1 year of control.

Well, if the Sox can continue to average 9 runs per game, they should be fine until then.

I think Cora has done a decent job but since something has to change and you can’t fire all the players Cora should take it on the chin

Someone else wrote a neat article about why neither Cora nor Breslow is expendable.

I agree managers are hired to be fired and that a lousy team is a good excuse for doing so.

On the other hand, I also think Cora is a terrific manager and perfect for this season.  Does anyone on here know where the Sox team ERA is ranked?  Anyone?  It's 23d out of 30 teams.  And the blame for that rests entirely with Breslow and somewhat with CB before him and of course with JH the owner.    Plus 15 games ago Cora lost his best player and hitter for maybe 2 months.   The Sox were 26-26 after Bregman's last game on May 23d.  Since then they are 6-9 without him.  But they are now 3-3 in their last 6 and took 2/3 against the AL East leading Yankees.

Right now the Sox are winning primarily with their hitting, and it's not just 1 or 2.  Practically the entire lineup has contributed.   What strikes me about the lineups these days is Cora's willingness to change lineups and to use the bench, which we saw yet again tonight.   Subs Gonzalez and Toro are now regulars because they are hitting.  Same goes for Narvaez, who has displaced Wong.  Cora likes Abreu in RF, but lately Ref is starting against lefty starters (and pinch-hitting against lefty relievers).  With the lead tonight, Abreu pinch hit for Ref and stayed in RF.

I also think the defense is under-rated, especially on Talksox.  The outfield is definitely above average, and so are 3b and catcher.  Story is actually pretty reliable at SS even if he has less range.  Tonight he took that pop fly away from Toro because he saw Toro was having trouble seeing the ball.  He's very good on double plays--and the Sox are ranked 4th in MLB in double plays per game.  So the only two real trouble spots are 2b and 1b.  My guess is that 1b would be a lot worse if Raffy had taken it over.  Toro and Gonzalez have both made good plays there.

One thing the Sox and Yankems have in common; neither is going to win the WS.

Sure looks that way.

How about Whit getting one out. He'll need couple of days iff now.

My guess--and that's all it is--is that Whitlock needs to focus on being good at just 2 or 3 pitches.  Most relievers get by with 2, but both have to be effective pitches.

June 18th is just 10 days away during which the Sox play six at home against the Rays and Yankees and three at Seattle.  Plus they get the 12th off.  I would love to see the Sox win 6 of 9, but seriously doubt they can if the pitching doesn't improve.

And that's really the point, isn't it?  If the Sox pitching doesn't improve, Winning 6 of the next 9 ain't happening.   The Sox have won 3 of their last 6 games while averaging 8 runs per game.  In the three wins the Sox scored 11, 10, and 11 runs.

Is it relevant to point out that rookie Campbell currently has a WAR of -0.6?  Rookie Mayer's WAR is +0.3 because of his defense.

I think June 18th is soon enough for Anthony.

I don’t care what Devers wants. He gets paid to do whatever his manager thinks is best for the team.

The manager is not asking him to play 1B.

That was nice win. Too scary at the end, but we needed that one.

We have a tough stretch coming up.

The Rays always give us trouble. Then, 3 at home vs the Yanks.

The 9 game left coast trip will be telling: 3 @ SEA, 3 @ SFG & 3 @ LAA

If we can get through these 15 games near .500, maybe we can hit the burners in the next stretch:

3 TOR, 3 CIN, 3 at WSH, 3 COL, 4 TBR

The schedule gets real nasty after that, starting July 18th. We have 5 weeks where we have to make a serious move.
