Reportedly Yoshida isn’t ready to field, specifically throw.  But he’s ok to hit…

I have said this before, but given that Yoshida's likelihood of being put in the OF ( LF specifically) is about equal to Devers now going to 1B  and sending Breslow a Hannukkah card.   Yoshi doesn't need to throw but could PH as long as the labrum healing doesn't impinge his swing.

Devers intransigence about playing 1B keeps Yoshida sidelined, maybe all year, wasting another $18 MM  , in addition to Raffy's $30Mm for a DH only .

Just a guess but I bet the overall controversy , which will not quiet down  until Breslow follows the command to "do his job" and find a 1Bman, will lead to Devers going into a long slump  . Not wishing it, just expecting some more pouting

Why Yoshida?  He is nowhere near the hitter Devers is, and DH is all about hitting.  I think Devers, who badly wanted to stay at 3b, has found a good niche at DH.  Moving him to 1b is stupid when Gonzalez is already playing 1b with an OPS 200 points higher than Casas's this season and 10 points higher than Yoshida's .775.

Devers ain't the problem, not by a longshot.  Yoshida is the problem.  Replacing Casas couldn't be easier, but all this bs going on is because it's so hard to find a spot for our $105M nonfielder.

Max,  Yoshida is not the problem.  The Sox can leave him on the IL , especially if he really cannot throw , leave him in AAA all season or trade for anything , or finally just DFA . I say leave him at WooSox, let him heal and then package him at trade deadline for a broke-arm reliever.

The real issue is whether Devers' is clogging the advancement of POTENTIALLY  really good players ( unproven)  who could further improve this team.   Or is Ceddanne Rafaela the clog , despite the GG defense and a better approach AB.

Go get Nathaniel Lowe from the Nationals.  He could play first base for 5 years.  We get someone who can hit and get on base.  Got to go back to 2018 with Moreland and Pearce at first base or Mike Napoli.

Do you think they should force devers to learn first base on the fly during the season?

Like Kyle Schwarber did?

"Force" is a tricky word in this context.

Cora put to gun to Kyle’s head himself…

It’s probably worth pointing out at this juncture Devers clearly isn’t being forced to play first either.  This entire scenario is because the CBO - not even the manager - asked him about fist base…
