Is Yoshida a more likely DFA than Casas?

I think we'll pull the plug on Masa. We'll trade him and $12-15M per year out of his $18M x 2 and move on.

That $3-5M saved might help us get a decent RP'er of upgrade from a $16M player to a $20M one.

I think you’re overthinking this in your season-long campaign to unload Yoshida.

I would expect Lowe to be non-tendered and Casas to resume 1b with Yoshida in the DH mix.  Campbell is the wild card with no position to play…

Season long? This goes back longer than that.

No Masa and KC now has a position to play. (So does Casas.)

Current rotation of 1.) crochet 2.) giolita 3.) bello 4.) May and 5.) beuhler?????

Buehler will not start, unless he shows vast improvement in the pen, and even then, they may need to keep him there.

I think it's Tolle or Harrison. Tolle would need a 40 man slot and hold it during the winter, when roster slots are needed.

I'm guessing it'll be Harrison. If he fails miserably, then it'll be Tolle.

Agreed. They and we might think Tolle is a better winning option, but they traded for Harrison for a reason. IMO, he was the "prize" of the return, although the return was not the major reason for the Devers trade.

I also think they are worried about roster issues, this winter. Waiting until opening day to put Houck on the 60 Day IL to open up a slot for a non 40 man guy is too appealing to Brez & Co. We already have some 40 man roster issues going on. It seems we are keeping Hicks on the 26 (out of options) in hopes that by next year he can figure things out (with help from them.) We have Yoshida, basically a DH only player, taking up a 26 and 40 man roster, although he could be demoted to AAA. We have the oft-injured Casas with the potential to hit over .800 or .850, who seems a better fit for DH than 1B, but we have a hole at 1B, so... We have Grissom, who will likely be traded or nontendered, and DHam who probably gets another year of life, since 2B is still a big worry due to Mayer's constant health issues. We have Sandlin and Mullins as Rule 5 guys. I think we hold off on Tolle, unless they aleady know some heads are rolling, this winter.

I watched Harrison pitch for Worcester twice now and he is a mess!!!  Maybe Bailey straightens him out, but not anytime soon.

I think that's a pretty good call.

The only other options might be to trade him in a package for a high(er) priced player.

I suggested Campbell & Yoshida for Keller & Reynolds (plus some cash)

Another could be trading Yoshida plus a good player to a team that can afford him and really wants that other player.

Tolle has rocketed through the minor leagues.
I am excited to see him throw. I hope he does not overthrow like he did in his first triple A start

Hopefully, he learned from that first AAA start.

I guess buehler stays in the bullpen

If they send Bernardino down, he can come back up Sept 1st.

It was just the very first inning and mainly bad defense that caused the big inning.

Good point. He learned he needs better defense behind him.

Why would they DFA Casas if he still has MiLB options and a cheap contract? If anything, he has trade value that Masa does not.

Plus, Woo needs a 1Bman... LOL.

There's gonna be a lot of adrenaline on the mound during Tolle's 1st inning.

In a better scenario it would probably have been easier for Tolle to have his debut start on the road. It is what it is. I wish him luck tonight.

Any chance we make a deal with Seattle this offseason, hitting for pitching. Woo has looked pretty good

I'm not as high on SEA pitchers, anymore.

1. Ryan

2. Keller (not because he's 2nd best, but he's paid a lot and PIT probably wants to deal him.)

we all wish him well. i just fear we are rushing him at this point. watching his highlights though he certainly has some swagger even a tad cocky I'd say

I think he has earned his slot in the Boston rotation. His stuff is better than Newcombe, Fitts and probably dobbins

Certainly, one post season should not be used as a template for others, or this year, but let's look at 2018 and the pitching usage:

GS: 5 Price, 3 Porcello & Sale, 2 Nate, 1 EROd.  This confirms that only 3, maybe 4 starters are needed.

Now, IP

26 Price, 22 Nate and 15 by Sale and Porcello totalled 69 IP and 54 by the rest.  If you add the two top RP'er IP it's 91 out of  143 IP or 64% of all innings by 6 guys.

The 6 for this year might be...

Crochet, Bello, Gio & Tolle plus Whitlock & Chapman,

Not too bad.
