With the lefty going, Cora is continuing to platoon Abreu, like last season.

Ref gets the start in RF. Campbell at 2B and Narvaez starts over the injured Wong. Romy vs the lefty.

L Duran LF

L Devers 3B

R Bregman 3B

R Refsnyder RF

R Story SS

R Campbell 2B

R Romy 1B

R Narvaez C

R Rafaela CF

Abreu & Casas on the bench may keep the Jays' manager from bringing in a righty.

Good move with Romy. I don’t think Casa would scare anyone right now from bringing in a RHP.  Abreu yes. Ref Man in RF again, at Fenway.

That just keeps Romy and Refsnyder in the lineup against LHP. I think they'd at least try to switch to a RHP midway and then switch back after Romy and Refsnyder are back on the bench.

That is one strategy, but Cora usually does not remove a platoon batter, early or mid game, unless men are on base and the game is close. We'll see what happens, tonight.

I know some want to see Abreu get a chance to play FT, and I thought maybe they'd give Rafaela the night off to make it happen, but not this time.

Crochet plus this lineup must be an almost guaranteed win.

Why jinx them ?    The weather may be a big equalizer over talent.   Crochet needs to bust that FB in on the hands to get bees in the Jay's batting gloves.   Be a win to get a win in bad conditions .

Let's hope our newly-formed right-handed heavy offense can do some damage against lefties this year.

Yanks down 5-0 to Tigers.

It's time to take our rightful place as sole leaders of the division.

Let's go!

Campbell gets a learning lesson on positioning for a throw at 2B.  Narvaez had springer burned but Ktristian was too far in front of bag to tag George quickly.  Let the ball come to you

Sox  batters not much interested in  battling Lucas quite yet.    Could be a quick game decided by who scores first

The players are young, strong athletes, and it's their job to run around in the cold.

What I just can't understand are the camera shots of elderly fans...

Is there any other hobby in life where a senior citizen would choose to sit outside on a hard plastic chair for hours at night in wild-chill temps of 23 degrees?

I guess some felt they had to go, after they paid for the tickets. I can honestly say I wouldn't go if they paid me.

Noticing more that Story's throws from SS are weak and inaccurate.   This has been alluded to by  other comments here .   Yes, it may be cold making the ball slick but Lucas is having no issues pitching it.

I hate losing the shutout  to Springer because he is so predictable as the guy to beat you.

Sox  lineup may have been spoiled by the slugfests vs the Cardinals and now don't think they need to work at it.  Sorry for Crochet if he loses this one.

Bad defense this inning

What is this, 2024?

The Red Sox still can’t hit LH pitching, and they have the 2nd worst errors/ game in MLB

If Devers had accumulated Bregman's 3 errors in 11 games, it would have been expected , if not appreciated.

That inning should have ended 1-0, survivable,  But  Campbell's throwaway  and a  roller through SS puts the game very close to the loss column.

The infield defense is only better on paper and in opinions, not in reality

Who knows, with Lucas gone maybe the ever come from behind Sox can beat the  Jays BP on a cold night.

With the offense on park, we'll need a good start from Houck tomorrow.

Btw this Jays' team is for real.

40% of 27 outs  is 10.8, but call it 11 .  Sox have 9 through 6 2/3rds .    Maybe there will not be any more, but unlikely.

Rafaela shows what can happen when you put the ball in play, getting an RBI on a high bouncer through the infield.

The K rate is actually intolerable across these guys.

And there is 10 through 7 innings as Duran worsens his chasing bad pitches.

Maybe all the exposure on his life story is putting on pressure to overachieve . In any case, he is not going well.

Sorry for your troubles with the website and/or your MAC's ability to work it.   Will miss your insights.

Meh.  Bregman is a ton better than Devers, and the Sox lead MLB in double plays by a wide margin thanks to Bregman, Story, Campbell, and Casas.  When you throw in Duran, Rafaela, and Abreu, it's a pretty good fielding team.

Plus I love the way Bregman played in on that grounder to 3b, which allowed him to throw out the lead runner going to 2b.

I too am disappointed by the throws by Bregman and Campbell leading to 3 unearned runs for Crochet and probably a second straight loss.  But I partly blame the weather plus coming off the double header on Sunday.
