I disagree.  The Royals had a +43 differential in their 13 games with the White Sox, but they also had a +48 differential in their other 149 games.  So it's not like they sucked against everyone else.

The Red Sox had a pitiful differential of +3 in their 7 games with the White Sox and a +1 in their other 155 games.

I think both teams are where they should be.

Exactly! The Royals Actually tried to get better this past offseason, and the Red Sox didn’t put out much of an effort.

too bad the Sox didn't sign Wacha and Lugo, instead of a broken down Giolito.

I honestly don't know what they had against Wacha.  He pitched pretty good for us and his price tag has been eminently reasonable by current standards.

I could get excited about this Padre team.  First of all, they built a lineup entirely out of shortstops, which is pretty cool.  But also, the Padres and Brewers are the only teams still alive that have never won a World Series. (For reasons related to living with Cubs’ fans, I cannot root for the Brewers.)

In fact, I don’t think the city of San Diego has ever won any championship.  The Chargers never won before the left.  The Clippers used to play there, which is as low as it gets.

Gio 19M AAV

Wacha 16 AAV

Lugo 15 AAV

I don't think two pitchers were in their budget. Henry said Breslow could only get one scoop, not two.

Wacha wanted a lot more than what he settled for from San Diego in that odd contract.  But numerous teams (not just Boston) turned him away that off-season

Michael King has been outstanding for them, he has really made the Soto trade pay off.

That trade also eventually got them Dylan Cease…

The 2nd scoop was the $17M the Red Sox paid Atlanta for Sale.

San Diego won an AFC Championship back in 63 beating the Patriots 51-10. A great game it was.

Sorry that had to go to 2b!

I was very high on Lugo and Imanaga. I was fine with Wacha, despite the injury risk. I also liked Monty, so nobody is perfect.

Several mid range SP'ers came through, this year. We swung and missed on Gio, while others with lower AAVs did better.

It did, but it didn’t have to, and wasted expense at that. Bad deal, back luck, and s*** happens all in one deal.

or they could have had Iggy for pocket change.

Some of us have been asking him to be re-signed to be the backup 2B after he came back in '21. He's right handed, had a good attitude and played adequate defense. I don't know why Bloom just didn't bring him back in '22 or '23 as a bench player.

only thing i can figure is that Iggy didn't fit into their philosophy of only signing injured or soon-to-be injured players.

Anyone who can win a ring after they leave Boston then all the power to them. Another ring for Bogey you bet!

Tell that to all the teams that won championships prior to the Super Bowl like the Packers.

Those definitely don't count.

Iglesias is pretty far down on my “I wish we re-signed him” list.  And I’d say it’s a safe bet it didn’t come down to “either we re-sign Iglesias or we have to trade Sale”…

The AFL titles?  That’s like winning the USFL or the ABA…

When GB won their "first" championship, other teams they played included the Dayton Triangles, the Frankford Yellow Jackets and the Providence Steam Roller. The one tie they had that season was with Frankford and the score was 0-0. Of course no real stats are maintained from that era aside from game score. That season the Packers played 13 games, Frankford played 19, New York played 15 and Dayton played 6. Maybe if they had played the Boston Bulldogs, Staten Island Stapletons or Orange Tornados they would have had a few more losses on that imaginary schedule of theirs...

Good history lesson, but I was thinking more about the middle to late 60’s.
