A trip to the Trop is always exciting and filled with misadventures.

Sox are in a struggle with the Rays to see who will finish 3rd/4th in the mighty ALE.  Sox can keep the lock on the Rays with a win tonight .

Not much discussion about  if Tanner Houck should pitch again this year.   I would say no, nothing to be gained pushing his tired arm/shoulder further, at the risk of worsening it.

I don't know what's worse, watching the Sox fall off in September or having to watch a game at the Trop. Dreary.

The Trop is a mausoleum with a circus tent inside. IOW, a perfect reflection of the entire state.

Rafaela at 2B is just a waste to me, but whatever.

He's not going to end up there, but since this whole week is do-or-die, Cora has to get all his outfielders in the batting order; they're his most productive players -- and that doesn't include the team's leading hitter Yoshida (OBP right behind Devers), who he must keep out of the outfield.

Here's Devers' stats since Aug. 1st:

.219 BA

.311 OBP

.356 Slugging

.667 OPS

Nothing here to write home about.

On the positive side, Devers' defense during that period has been very good.

Unsurprising when he has a bad shoulder.

Pivetta was about to get my compliments on a well pitched 3 innings when he allowed the obligatory HR on an 0-2 pitch .   Still, Casas gave him him a little coverage with a 2 run HR, settle down Nick.

It will be interesting to see what type of offers Pivetta gets this winter.   He has some ability to dominate for a while, but can also  slide into mediocrity.    If he wasn't already on the Sox, he is probably the type of cost effective inning eater Breslow would be looking for.

Who knows, they may want to sign him .

That was a nasty pitch up and in.  It wasn’t even a strike.  Sometimes the hitter gets you.

Not every homer is a bad pitch.  Not every bad pitch is hit for a home or even a base hit.

I think he would make an excellent #5-6 SP if the price was right.
