Devers is playing hurt and it shows.  They'll probably have to shut him down soon.

Give Meidroth a few weeks to make a small impression.... or not.

A 40 man roster move would need to be made if Luis Guerrero is called up.

Maybe cut ties with Garcia or Sims?

Meidroth hasn't played in a few days and I believe he might be out of the lineup again tonight.  Is he banged up?

I doubt we see him, I don't think we see any guys who aren't on the 40 right now

No reason to put Meidroth on the 40 man this season. They aren't required to add him until after next year. I like him, but seems like it would just add to a crowded 40 man. Would have to dump Romy or someone else. Why bother at this point?

When he makes his debut, Guerrero will be the first pitcher  under 25 years old to throw a pitch for the Sox since May 12 when Bello made his last start before his birthday.

Because Romy would dump you!  He’d do it in a heartbeat!

If we can't pick up a couple games on MIN or KCR, who are playing each other, this weekend, as we play the CWS, then we don't deserve any glory.

Posted

KCR beat MIN, so we are 5 down in the loss column to both of them.

3 bunchings or 3 teams each ...

Loss column only:

We are...

-10 BAL, NYY, CLE

-5 KCR, MIN, HOU

Tied BOS, DET, SEA (as of now)

Fangraphs Rankings

Offense/Defense by position (overall fWAR)

T6th/30 Catcher 22nd

21st/14th 1st Base 22nd

30th/29th 2nd Base 30th

12th/29th Short Stop 19th

7th/24th 3rd Base 13th

2nd/14th LF 3rd

6th/5th CF 3rd

3rd/3rd RF 2nd

DH 17th (PH 3rd)

Clearly, our OF carried our offense and helped the defense. 3B, SS and DH were near average.

2B was worst, again, with 1B and C pretty bad, too.

Our SP'ing ranked 12th with a 10.6 fWAR, despite being 22nd in IP.

Our pen ranked 15th and were 10th in most IP (2 IP from 8th most.)

Overall, in fWAR, our pitching ranks 13th, but it is 9th in xFIP at 4.02 and 8th in SIERA at 3.92.

Sox are 22nd in OAA at -16

Cora definitely sees Story as a fixture in short.

That means Rafaela can play centerfield where he has crazy runs saved metrics.

Injury just plays a big part in a successful season anymore.

I don't remember season ending injuries as frequent back in the 70's.

It was very nice seeing Story at SS, last night. To me, he is a big key to 2025. I know that seems almost as scary as counting on Chris Sale coming back in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, but he really is the one guy who sets in motion several upgrades at maybe 3 other positions.

2B: DHam, Romy, Grissom and maybe Campbell can fight for one position, not two. All are better at 2B than SS.

CF: Putting Rafaela in CF, full time, give a huge boost to the defense and adds RHB to the all lefty OF, when he is at SS.

LF: Duran being FT in LF gives us one of MLB's best defensive and offensive LF.

That being said, we need to have a better plan in place, in case he gets hurt, again. We should not count on Rafaela, DHam and Romy as our 2025 SS.

The Dalbec DFA was always pending. Only the Casas injury kept it from happening earlier. Maybe he ends up getting another MLB look with a team hurting at 1B, 3B or DH.

He did have a couple decent stretches with the bat, including the first 545 PAs of his career at .819 with 33 HRs and 62 XBHs. That's pretty amazing, considering he had a 310 PA stretch in the middle of those 545 PAs at .651 w just 11 HRs.

It all went downhill, starting with his 0-12 in the 2021 playoffs. He finished with a .599 OPS over his final 3 years with BOS (449 PAs.)

Good luck, Bobby Dee. You will probably need it.

Fitts was going to be protected Rule 5, anyway, so let's see what he can do. His GS since JUL 27 IP/ER

He does offer hope we have a better back-up at SS than Rafaela/DHam/Romy/Sogard.

I only hope he and Story don't overlap time on the IL.
