Four days ago, it was down to the Giants, Angels, Cubs and Red Sox.

 

Now some talking heads have the Giants and Angels moving on. And it’s down to just the Red Sox and Cubs?

 

I’m predicting tomorrow Imanaga signs with the Dodgers…

It does seem to be the case that San Fran is one of the least favored destinations now and they have to pay a heavy premium to sign anyone.

 

It's just dumb because most players live out in like Walnut Creek or wherever.

I believe signing both and NOT signing Soler keeps them under the CBT. They are currently projected to be 52M under the CBT per Spotrac and 45M per Cots including arb raises. @redsoxpayroll thinks it would put them over the CBT as they are highest at projecting the current Sox payroll at 201M.

 

Personally, I believe the actually Sox budget is NOT the CBT, but lower.

If the Red Sox do somehow sign or trade for two good starting pitchers, I won't really care if they fill other holes or upgrades this winter.

 

Soler or Duvall or JD or Manny or Jimmy Foxx aren't going to make this roster a World Series team, but an actual big league starting rotation will go a long way in putting Boston back in the direction of heading there... maybe next year, maybe the one after that, but it has to start with starters.

Word is, the Imanaga contract is set up very differently, with various escalators and possible opt-outs. Apparently, only about $80M guaranteed. We'll get the details, later. Contract pending physical.
