It's not even about Yoshida vs DHam, although I did mention wanting DHam at SS and Rafaela in CF as part of the set-up that creates the situation where one of O'Neill or Ref should DH over Yoshida, even vs RHPs.

When Abreu comes back, there is no way Yoshida should start at DH. Even with Rafaela at SS and DHam on the bench.

SS: Rafaela

LF: Refsnyder/ONeill

CF: Duran

RF: Abreu

DH: O'Neill/Ref or Valdez, if DHam plays 2B

What has Yoshida done, even vs RHPs that makes him the choice over O'Neill, Ref or Valdez? Valdez kills RHPs, and the other two are doing fine vs RHPs. If there is an injury or a slump, then maybe Yoshi should get a chance.

He has not earned a chance like others have.

Sure he could.

Cora could play O’Neill in LF, Duran in CF, Rafaela at SS and plug Yoshida into DH. He’s done it before…

and Bench Ref or Valdez?

When Abreu comes back, absolutely no dice for Yosh.

Yes bench Ref, and or Valdez. Abreu is still a platoon guy himself. I’m guessing Cora will have things all under control without your so called help.

Yoshida isn't going anywhere, not this year at least. He's the prototypical sunk cost. Let's just hope he stays well and heats up.

We know Cora is going to play Yoshida, if Brez puts him on the 26, but I don't see how he earned even a platoon DH role, yet. I think he should not start over many of the guys listed below:

Rafaela is playing FT, either at SS or CF, and Duran is playing FT LF/CF.

That leaves RF and DH for these guys:

v RHPs:

.895 Abreu (when he returns)

.856 Refsnyder (does not have a long sample size of success v RHPs)

.822 DHam (at SS w Rafaela in CF)

.795 Valdez

.745 O"Neill (.763 career vs RHPs in 1400+ PAs)

.716 Yoshida (.782 career)

vs LHPs (Abreu & Valdez should sit, but so should Yoshida)

1.242 O'Neill

1.008 DSmith

.958 Westbrook (in AAA, now)

.871 Refsnyder

.853 McGuire (reverse split)

.602 Duran

.549 DHam

.461 Yoshida (.703 career)

.450 Abreu

.091 Valdez

If Brez puts Noshida on the 26?🙈🤭. He already on the 26, and the $60M, or so left on his contract will keep him there🤫. To think the Red Sox are just going to release him is ridiculous. NOshida, and his contract was a parting gift from your guy Bloom🤮.

I had him benching Hamilton for Yoshida.

Refsnyder drops into a bench role when Abreu returns. Valdez probably not until he plays himself out of it…

So, you prefer Rafaela at SS just to get Yoshida to DH over one of these guys (assuming Duran in CF, O'Neill in LF and Abreu (v R)/Ref (v L) in RF:

(I'm also assuming 2B is Valdez v R and DHam/Romy v R)

Ref (.856) and DHam (.822) v RHP

(Vs LHPs we have a bunch of s***** choices, of which Yoshida seems no worse or maybe even better.)

Cora doesn’t need your help outside of letting him know when he should rest someone.🤭🙈

Oh stop it. Bloom was nobody's "guy." I have defended him because I think John Henry has set some rules down that would make it difficult for any CBO, but I don't disagree that many of the acquisitions by Bloom have bombed.

I have also, however, also pointed that Breslow's acquisition of Grissom--for Sale, who is now Atlanta's ace and $17M of whose salary the Sox are paying--and of Giolito have been awful so far. Giolito is being paid $36M for at most one season.

I do see the case for keeping Yoshida on the active roster, but that doesn't mean I think he was a smart acquisition by Bloom. Nor was Story and a few others.

I'm not for DFA'ing Yoshida, just yet. I'd like to see us try to trade him and offer a chunk of money with it.

If Brez puts anyone on the 26, Cora will play them, and sometimes maybe, too much.

It's weird how some who seemed so anti-Yoshi now want him starting over players doing much better than him.

I think Cora will do that.

Hamilton is playing because he’s hitting, but it’s not going to last. He’s not going to hit better in the majors than he did in A, AA, or AAA. And his glove at SS isn’t going to keep him in the lineup when he’s not hitting. So when that happens, what? Keep trotting him out there? Or re-arrange the OF to put the best defensive SS on the team at SS?

Unless they bring in someone or promote someone, the options at shortstop are pretty limited. Rafaela, Hamilton and Gonzalez. And if Hamilton isn’t hitting, is he really an option?

Oh, I know Cora will play Yoshida. He plays who Brez puts on the 26.

I'm not projecting DHam to keep hitting like this, but I do like riding the hot hand, until it cools.

My second point was that I prefer Rafaela in CF, but with all these OF'er hitting well, let's assume DHam (vL) platoons with Valdez (vR) at 2B: I'd still prefer Ref at DH v RHPs (O'Neill, Duran & Abreu in the OF) Don't se still have to sit one of these 4 vs RHPs?

I get that Ref may not continue hitting RHP's this well for much longer. He has already dipped some, but he's still hitting well enough to keep playing FT. I get how maybe we can think DHam won't, but who is confident Yoshi will hit any better?

The worst part is, we have so many bad hitters vs LHPs, that Yoshida might be better in that platoon than v RHPs against Refsnyder/DHam.

As usual you are wrong again, and it’s really weird you keep getting things wrong. I don’t want NOshida as is starting over players that that are producing, but I just know the Red Sox are not going to DFA him, or eat a good part of his salary right now, and Cora will continue to play him despite your obsession to the contrary.🙈🤭

It’s already been said by more than one other poster on here that Cora plays everyone on the roster good, or bad like Bobby D.

I couldn't care less what you or other posters say about what you think Cora will do. Not even Cora knows what he will do, as he is tied by directives from upper management. For someone who loves to call other people out on being wrong, at least make a semblance of an effort to formulate opinions based on how things actually work. We're not reinventing the wheel here.

How do you know what Cora will or won't do? Are you like his wife's tennis coach or something?

It’s already been said on here by 3 posters that Cora plays everyone on the 26 so I think it’s pretty well known what Cora will do. Good, or bad like Bobby D.

It’s a pretty dumb question to ask on how people know what Cora will do when others had already answered it for you, and something he’s done since he’s been a Red Sox manager. It’s not a secret by any means.

I'm actively getting dumber by engaging in this argument with you, so I'll bow out. Just know that what you're saying is bad, and you should feel bad.

You are right about 1 thing it was dumb for you to get involved. MOOn, and Max had already said the same thing that Cora plays everyone on the roster. You added nothing.

He still thinks I want Yoshi DFA'd, despite me saying every time, I do not.

Words have totally different meanings to him. Some, very simple words, too.

It's impossible.

The other thing is, he keeps saying "ignore the man behind the curtain," but can't take his own advice and is obsessed with tearing down anything I say.

Kinda sad, really.

Now, cue form him... "But, but, but, he said he wasn't going to say anything about poor ole me, again, and he just did..."

Yeah, that’s why I deleted the post you responded to; he’s not worth it.

I'm kinda surprised he's not watching golf and is still posting, since we have been winning, recently.

You are a BIGGER PHONY, and a FRAUD then the man behind the curtain. Once again not a gift, but a curse.Mr. WRONG, Mr. WRONG they keep playing your song. Wash, Rinse, and Repeat.

I think it's pretty simple. Cora will get everyone at-bats, and the guys who keep hitting will get more of them.

Yoshida had a 110 OPS+ in his first MLB season, so I don't see writing him off just yet. Doesn't mean it was a good signing.

The most obvious odd man out right now is Grissom.

I still have faith in Yoshida because you can't teach the type of plate discipline and swing decisions that guy can make when right. But so far he hasn't been up to snuff.

Bloom had a plan that signing the $100M man NOshida/Yoshida for 5 years would be a big part of the future going forward just as he did signing Story Land for 6 years. Remember also he supposedly wanted Bogey back too. Blueprints for success?

Right.

moon wants everything to be a little too simple - just keep playing the 'hot hands' until they cool off, and since Yoshida isn't hot, bench him or get him out of a Red Sox uniform altogether.
