How ironic would it be if Giolito came back in 2025 pitched well and the Sox retained him in 26' and he pitched better?

I would rather of had one good year and a draft pick.

Even more so, I'd rather have almost a completely different rotation.

They can retain him for 26?

Get that Fire Sale sparked up. Yahoo.

Maybe they should extend Pivetta?

If that sweeper is still working early on, I'd do it. Maybe even think about doing it anyway depending on what he'd take.

I'm ok with it, as long as it's not too exorbitant that -- once they trade him -- the Sox will have to pay half for Pivetta to play for another club.

That's too much for the current regime, and probably the reason they'll never trade Trevor Story... and subsequently, have to deal infield prospects, instead.

Pivetta would be a useful addition to a contender's staff, but so far has never been a top of the rotation guy.

Speaking of Story, what happens (if and) when Mayer is ready?

It could be an issue as soon as next season -- and Story will still have three more years on his contract that the Stupid Sox will have to eat half of, if they need to trade him.

Story moved to second base "for one year" when he signed for longtime hometown hero Xander B, but doing it again... for a rookie? Can't see it. Mayer playing second is much more likely, initially.

I like Story's D, and that he's become a leader and good teammate. But unless he makes a big adjustment with his bat and approach, expecting Colorado Trevor is like hoping for LA to trade Mookie back to Boston.

Also we may have a second baseman now.

Breslow is praying injury-prone O'Neill stays healthy and not join his other two big offseason acquisitions on the sidelines. Otherwise, Henry will can Brez and send him to join Bloom in St. Louis.

Then be prepared for Alex Cora to move upstairs, and hire older bro Joey to manage, who -- after Bailey leaves -- will hire Pedro as pitching coach. Things will be looking up, until Pedro decides to make a comeback. THAT will keep the fans interested, at least...

2b? DH? Trade? Probably trade.

Why would he DH, unless he's hurt or lost his range due to an injury or quick aging?

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Thursday that outfielder Tyler O’Neill is battling left calf tightness and won’t accompany the team on its trip to the Dominican Republic this weekend. In addition, right-hander Zack Kelly has been shut down with a sore oblique.

Henry just walked into the front office and decreed a complete spending freeze. There'll be no more roster reinforcements, unless from within the org.

Then, the sly investor looked at all 33 assistant VPs and gophers in the room, picked out the most athletic-looking two dozen, and told them to report to the clubhouse to be fitted for unis.

"I've made them all thousandaires," he mused. "What's the worst that can happen -- we'll finish fifth? But when these guys blow out their knees, even if they're in wheelchairs, at least they can still crunch some data for us. Now that's optimizing resources... I'm brilliant."

Whoever is writing this series has a sick sense of humor.

Is it a "sick" roster or a roster that is "sick" ?

When you go to Fenway this season, air sickness bags will be located at your seat when you arrive just in case.

Way too early, I know, but my confidence in Breslow is actually pretty high. I think we have a real baseball brain in charge now.

@alexspeier

The Red Sox have hired Sportsology, an external consulting group, to conduct and external audit as Craig Breslow looks to take stock of and shape the team’s front office

The consultants to half the EVP's: "What would you say you do here?"

Their answers would be very interesting to hear.

In the Red Sox Staff Directory, there are loads of names in Baseball Operations departments, including Baseball Operations and Administration (travel, clubhouse, medicine, etc), Baseball Research and Development (mostly analytics), Minor League Operations, and Scouting.

But at the top of the list there's the Executive Management Team -- which includes 18 Vice Presidents. This is not a drill.

The number 18 does make sense. Every game each one of them is responsible to analyze one half inning.

That's just a lot of Presidents of Vice. There must be ashtrays and spittoons all over the room, devises tuned to gambling sites (among others), texting during pitches, and outbursts of the most vile and graphic swearing.

The Seinfeld connotations are inescapable.

Henry is forcing BOH to collect recycling and drive to Michigan to get the additional 5 cents.
