I've been kinda high on Imanaga, or maybe more than most. I see him and Stroman as about an even risk.

Hard to know.

If you told me in mid December, we'd be adding Imanaga, Giolito, Teoscar and O'Neill, I would not have been happy.

Now, with my hopes being lowered, it might be the best we can hope for.

They are getting really good at this lowering the bar thing.

Do you see Teoscar as being an upgrade from Duvall, especially if we are thinking RF (or maybe CF?)

Probably lateral move. He's not playing CF.

Sox are reportedly interested in Soler too. I would rather Teoscar. Soler has had some really horrible seasons recently and he's probably a DH only guy IMO.

True. Rafaela and Abreu are better than both in CF. (Not Duran, though.)

So, you see Teaoscar and Duvall as equal on D in RF?

The O is a tough call, too.

Lateral sounds right.

My expectations bar was not lowered; it disappeared.

My hopes have been greatly lowered, including quite a bit in the months after the "full throttle" thingy.

Can we finally stop with this whole LF/DH fascination?

We might as well sign 3 Tommy Phams.

I wouldn't want to sign Soler. Teoscar? Sure. Duvall? Sure. Duvall can at least backup 1B too!

Pass on Soler and pass on Teoscar.

If you want a RHH bat for RF at Fenway, either bring back Duvall or find one on the trade market…

FA SP:

Snell - rarely goes 130 innings

Monty - horse, but is going to be overpaid, Sox should be able to afford

Stroman - used to be Mr. Reliable but less innings the past two years

Kershaw - LAD or TX only most likely

Clevinger - injuries, character issues, high xFIP, low whiff rate

Lorenzen - poor man's Seth Lugo

Woodruff - sign to Paxton rehab deal?

Urias - may spend time in jail over the course of the contract

Manaea - entire statcast page is blue, Bailey worked with him and put him in the pen, not mention of them being linked says a lot

Greinke - back end starter, not much meat left on the bone

Paxton - health concerns we all know about

German - glug glug glug, lots of hard contact

Ryu - left of TOR playoff squad, injuries piling up for 37 year old

Junis - elite velo, probably more of a bullpen arm

Imananga - led Japan in HR's given up, goes well with HR's given up by Gio!

Bauer - all around great guy, no PR concerns, more often than not was a 4 ERA guy until playing with sticky stuff

Y Rodriguez - reports are he's a bullpen guy

I'm okay with Duvall or Teoscar, because I see them as better in RF than Soler, but I do really prefer plus RF defense in Fenway.

Is this in order you like them?

Isn't kershaw starting the year on the IL and may miss half the year?

@tylermilliken_

According to @JimBowdenGM, the finalist for Shota Imanaga are the Red Sox, Cubs, Angels, and Giants.

He has until January 11th to make a decision on which big league team to sign with.

After Snell and Monty, it was last year's fWAR and then some guys tacked on at the end.

I'd go (factoring in contract costs):

Monty

Stroman

Woodruff

Paxton

Ryu

Snell

Clevinger

Imanaga

Kershaw

German

Greinke

Lorenzen

Bauer

Urias

Y Rodriguez

Junis

Manaea

....and Urias.

I don't really want to touch the Bauer situation again, I think I already gave myself and everyone else PTSD. But taking all the drama out of the equation he's a guy who hasn't pitched in the majors in 2.5 years. He does offer upside, but carries risk, and he probably takes a 1-2 year pillow contract to help he rebuild value.

We already have a guy like that with the signing of Giolito, at this point we need certainty in the rotation. Perferably with talent.

SEA-SFG Trade

To SFG: Robbie Ray

To SEA: Mitch Haniger & Anthony DeSclafini (+ Cash)

There is also a rumor of the Rays sending Luke Raley to SEA for Jose Caballero.

I think Woodruff will miss all of 2024, so this would be a move for 2025 and beyond or a "pillow" contract for 2025, while paying him something for '24.

My list might look like this, "counting contracts:"

1. Monty

2. Imanaga

3. Stroman

4. Snell

5. Paxton

6. Bauer

Other teams can have the rest.

Rosenthal states that Sox are open to trading Yoshida and have heard from a few teams about him.

Moving Yoshida would open up financial and positional room to sign Matt Chapman, but that ain't happening- sorry, notin!

C- Wong/McGuire

1B- Devers/Casas

DH- Casas/Devers

3B- Chapman (Devers)

2B- Grissom (Reyes)

SS- Story (Reyes)

LF- Druan/Refsnyder

CF- Rafaela/Abreu

RF- O'Neill (Abreu)

It would also make it "easier" to sign Teoscar or Duvall.

Man, if they trade both Story and Yoshida it would be f'king hilarious.

Brad Keller projects at 0.2 fWAR. He doesn't get put on the list.

He’s also got Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. I guess I can pass. That can be a career ender for lots of guys…

Sox need to "reduce payroll" and look into other areas before signing someone like Teoscar according to Rosenthal.

Also need to "reduce payroll" before they sign another pitcher according to other reports.

Who else is going to go?

I think Masa has a solid year 2, but that's really just flushing Bloom down the toilet.

What team might want Yoshida (plus cash, I assume?)

When you really come right down to it is there anyone who should really be untouchable?

San Diego. They need LHH. But they might want to send a contract back. Yoshida for Yu Darvish? Darvish is owed $83mil over 5. Yoshida is owed $74.4mil…
