Depth? or did you mean death?

Both.

I thought the one thing our staff had this year was decent depth. Quantity of mediocrity or better, but we taxed it too much, or I just over-valued the quality aspect of all the "quantity."

I'm still not giving up, but we need to go 6-1 in the next 7 games- 5-2, if we can go on a run vs the big boys afterwards. It's not looking good. There is no denying that.

SOX franchise has exclusive rights to the color Fenway Green, but if you wanted to paint your house in that color, just remove a chip of paint from the ballpark. Do that at your own risk.

Once you have the chip, it can be copied at your local Dutch Boy or whatever.

Or you can go with the city connect yellow.

What a cluster fuk in the bullpen.

Bloom should be embarrassed to have these 2 clowns coming out of the pen.

Reminds me of that old VW commercial where a limitless number of clowns were exiting the car.

yeah but they fit the budget

This is the most expensive Bullpen in Sox history, including what we are paying Barnes to be on the IL with MIA.

what does this tell you about Bloom's ability to judge bullpen talent? i know what it tells me.

He actually is more successful than most waiver wire scroungers. The problem is he doesn’t do anything else.

And while Lamet and Robertson looked bad tonight, it’s a very small sample. Lamet in particular has had some very impressive stretches in his career. But he’s had so many injuries it’s impossible to know if he’s just having a bad day or pitching in pain…

It’s also 3 pitchers larger than many of the previous bullpens..

Lamet had a good stretch during the fluke 2020 season, he has been pretty bad the rest of his career and was legitimately one of worst pitchers in baseball when he got released by colorado. He sucks. He’ll likely be gone Friday when Sale is back

We can guess.

Too bad we couldn't have gotten Cora more SP'ers. This pen might have been one of MLB's best:

Jansen

Martin

Winckowski

Schreiber

Houck

Whitlock

Crawford

Murphy/Joely/Bernardino/Walter/Kelly

I know, I know- you need to plan for injuries and injuries to the replacements, too.

The major weakness of this team has been the rotation and defense.

Secondary issues have been inconsistent and untimely hitting, plus poor base-running.

The pen carried us for much of the year, but so many were moved to the rotation or needed in pen games, we ended up with too many Lametts, Jacues, Lloveras and Orts.

The top 5-6, alone, plus payments made for RP'ers on other teams, would still be the highest paid.

He had a good run from 2019-21, with a 3.54 FIP and a 3.50 K/BB. Problem was he pitched only one season worth of IP across that 2.4 season stretch.

At this point, if he isn’t damaged, he soon will be. He’s just had too many injuries to last…

To be fair, he was a decent prospect at one time (was the Opening Day starter for Padres in 2018), but that has gone out the window after another string of injuries in 2021.

Almost all that money is spent on Jansen and Martin. Are you counting Pivetta as a reliever?

I did not count Pivetta, but yes, most of the money comes from jansen & Martin plus the Barnes payments to MIA.

16 Jansen

8.0 Martin

5.6 Barnes

3.5 Bleier

2.0 Brasier

1.5 Joely

(Not counting $10 Kluber)

Name a season we paid more.

I guess the Red Sox didn’t believe in him. They saw enough to already DFA him.

Lamet was the 30th Sox pitcher used, this year, not counting Reyes. It's been a revolving door, for sure, and these are the nine pitchers who are on the outside, now...

IP in 2023

31 Bleier

23 Ort

21 Brasier

6.2 Sherriff

4.0 Dermody

3.2 Scott

3.0 Littell

2.0 Faria

2.0 Lamet

Are these 9 better than the 8 we added or kept?

Murphy

Bernardino

Barraclough

Walter

Robertson

Garza

Jacques

Llovera
