Hope the 4th of July includes some Red Sox fireworks !!

Looking to extend the 3 game win streak against a really good Ranger team (50-35) leading the AL West by 3 over the Astros , after Monday's 12-11 loss . Sox have 6 at home ( 3 w/TX; 3w/A's) before the reset of the All-Star break. Need to go 4-2 minimum .

The Red Sox starter is TBD as of Monday while Cora and Bloom commiserate over a cold beer. If Bello is going Wednesday and Paxton is having a baby, who is left in the shredded rotation ? Call it a BP game or will a WooSoxer get an MLB appearance plus a day's pay?

Texas will start Dane Dunning (RH) sporting a 7-1 record with a 2.69 ERA /1.10 WHIP. But he is not a strikeout artist with 51 in 80 innings, good news for a few in our typical lineup. Dunning came out of the TX bullpen having worked 8 games there before being inserted into the rotation .

The day off doesn't really help much, either.

How long is Paxton gone? I guess as long as he is back for one start before the break, it doesn't matter. Only tomorrow's starter can fill 2 of the 6 slots.

It's weird they don't start Bello Tuesday on normal rest, then they could start hm Sunday before the break. That way, we get 2 of the 6 slots filled with one guy. Oh well.

My guesses:

7/4 TEX Walter

7/5 TEX Bello (+1 day rest)

7/6 TEX Murphy

7/7 OAK Crawford (+1)

7/8 OAK Paxton (+3)

7/9 OAK Whitlock (+2) or Walter/pen game

Whitlock to the IL. Tayler Scott recalled.

Meanwhile, experienced MLB starter Chris Flexen sits in DFA limbo…

So the answer to the starting pitcher TBD is none other than the surprisingly effective reliever Brennan Bernardino, making it a BP game . Tough way to start a key series where the team needs 4 or better yet 5 wins. Rangers can hit ( but still lose)

Unusual move where the Mets acquire Flexen and Gott from Mariners and directly DFA Flexen again, bottom fishing for any value.

The SOX better have their bats working overtime today because the Rangers' offense is 2nd to none in MLB. They have 4 players on pace for 100 or more RBI at this point in the season.

What no Kike to cheer on ? Maybe a late inning key situation defensive replacement at SS or to PH K for Hamilton

No idea if Bernardino will do well today but if you check his checkered history in professional baseball in the U.S. and Mexico, you have to give Bloom or his team a kudo for finding this over 31 lefty who has done well so far.

But Brennan did not read the memo telling him to give up 1 or 2 runs in the first. He'll catch on.

Bernardino gets 4 outs, and a weak infield single on 18 pitches and Cora decides that Ort is the answer. Bernardino did pitch in relief of IL Whitlock Saturday so likely protecting one of his few arms. If Ort gets out of the inning with no runs allowed, I'll give him props.

No props for ORT who returns to suckitude . Ort throws 6 pitches, allows 3 hits including a 3 run HR.

Ort sucks and everybody knows it, but Cora is a moron for putting him over and over again and specially against this lineup. Bloom is behind this nonsense btw.

Cora playing the insanity game. Bringing in Ort and expecting different results. Is Ort also in possession of compromising photos?

Ort has usage, but only if the Sox are behind. He actually has decent numbers when the game has a margin of more than 4 runs. His worst numbers are a tie or 1 run game.

In other words, he should only be used in blowout situations to save more effective arms.

...and he keeps Ort after a HR.

To prevent those slow rolling singles, Ort would be the guy you want on the mound.

The first hit he gave up wasn’t exactly roped. The next 2 not so much.

Seems like Cora does not see it that way. For him and Bloom he is reliable.

Have to face 3 batters. At that point, he had only seen 2.

Edit - Also he gave up the first single on the 4th pitch, the homer on the 5th pitch and the next hit on his 6th pitch. In no universe is that enough time for any reliever to get loose.

That's true yet I still wonder why he brought him.
