Ort has usage, but only if the Sox are behind. He actually has decent numbers when the game has a margin of more than 4 runs. His worst numbers are a tie or 1 run game.

In other words, he should only be used in blowout situations to save more effective arms.

It's not just Ort. With Sale, Houck, and Whitlock out, the Sox currently have 3 viable starters: Paxton (on paternity leave), Bello, and Crawford. Plus the bullpen--not just Ort--isn't all that reliable.

The Sox are down 4-1 in the 4th inning for the simple reason we have seen one freaking Sox hitter and zero freaking Sox pitchers in this game. It's actually kind of amazing the Sox are only down by 3 runs.

Blaming it all on Ort is just silly.

Yep. One run will win you maybe 2 games a year.

Different question.

Apparently , the 5th hitter ( E. Duran) tendency was to hit LH'ers well, so the RH'ed ORT was the brilliant solution. Duran hit him as did Garver with the HR.

Duran is 7 for his last 7 with 6 XBH…

Duran and Casas are part of the future of this team.

Texas is the rare team so far this season that spent a ton of money and is getting successful results.

Actually, the Rangers are ninth in total PR(198 mil) which is only 18 mil more than the SOX have spent. Luckily for Texas they don't have millions spent on players not healthy enough to play.

And to be fair, Bernardino did his job, allowing only a swinging bunt hit.

I'd keep Dugo, Duran, Casas, Yoshida, Devers, and the catcher tandem for next year's team for sure.

True, but not useless for 3 years going on 4.

Oh but he will be. I know it's not the point, just an example of the fact that pitchers are a gamble.

On most teams Duran would play everyday, but most teams don't have a 'genius' for a manager.

Duran's OPS vs lefties is .618. Against righties .878. So it might make sense not to start Duran against lefties.

How does he improve against LH's if he doesn't face them? Please ask your friend Cora. I'd be interested in his reply.

Really glad to see Hamilton at SS--but not so much at bat. Lately the bottom of the Sox order has been awful at the plate. This is of course Cora's fault for not putting good hitters in all 9 slots.

Same goes for the starting pitcher today. The Sox are knee deep in good starters, but instead he went with Berndardino. Just stupid managing.

He should at least be playing against some lefties. Maybe you sit him against an all-star type lefty, at least for now, but play him against less talented southpaws to see what he can do.

Or just play him everyday.

Just because a player has a weaker split vs LHP shouldn’t automatically trigger a platoon…

No one here complained about Bernardino, except for Cora removing him so early. There's no reasonable excuse for bringing in Ort based on his history with the SOX. I do understand that this injury prone team hasn't made Cora's job easier, but there's certain moves he makes that are definitely worth discussing.

It's early. Coming into this season it was a given Duran was not quite MLB material. But his fielding (routes) improved dramatically, Duvall got hurt, and, when Duran took over in CF he showed he could also hit. That said, .618 vs. lefties is pretty low, especially when Refsnyder is available and has an OPS of .930 vs lefties.

But keep writing. I always enjoy learning from fans who know so much more than managers who are both professional and successful.

I detect the whiff of sarcasm in this post

Almost as enjoyable as a fan who believes his manasger can do no wrong and defends him at every turn. Cora's an average manager; no better or no worse than most.

Well it can trigger a platoon, but the trend has to have a larger sample size than what Duran has so far.

Maybe Murphy has reached his limit

Murphy did fine today. 1 run in 3 2/3 is more than acceptable. A bit shaky at times, but he kept the Sox in the game.

I mean he's pretty good, don't sell him short.
