I think this is a good move for the A's organization.

(1) Las Vegas has a larger population than Oakland.

(2) More out of town people come to Las Vegas than Oakland, and that should help with attendance especially if it is a really nice park with a lot of extras. Can they set up a gambling casino in the park with a big screen TV and have people bet on the game as it is going on?

(3) It sounds like they plan to keep the name Athletics. I'm not sure if that is a great idea. The Las Vegas Raiders sounds good, but the Las Vegas Athletics? Yuck. How about the Las Vegas Gamblers? I like that and the residential population will like it too. Or how about the Las Vegas Aces? That's even better. If they call themselves the Las Vegas Aces, they can keep the same hat and logo with the A. Aces refers to card games, but can also refer to ballplayers or a pitching staff more specifically. The name "Athletics" has been in MLB since the early 1900s, I get that, but there are better options for Las Vegas.

Las Vegas population: almost 650,000

Oakland population: around 430,000

And if they build the ballpark in the right spot in Las Vegas, near the casinos, the park should attract many visitors, people who come to Las Vegas from different parts of the country.

Who goes out of their way to take a trip to Oakland, CA? Surely, more people take vacations/trips to Las Vegas.

Yeah, from what I hear, Oakland isn't the nicest place. The only attraction to me, ever, would have been the championship legacies of the A's and the Raiders.

Las Vegas Dupes? Marks? Johns? Suckers? Paupers? Indigents?

Just don't call them Poor Boys or Beggars... or horrors, the Card Counters (the entire roster could end up on the IL).

Oakland isn't great, but the surrounding area in the West Bay is nice. Oakland didn't have a huge attendance problem until the owners really started cheapening out on the team. When Fischer bought the team, he stopped maintaining the Coliseum almost immediately and just let it turn to s***. The Raiders moving back to the Oakland ruined it as a baseball stadium as well. It's no surprise that fans stopped going. He was holding out for public funding and got it out in Vegas. Dude put the A's franchise as collateral on a separate loan and has no money.

Well they started with the name “Athletics” in Philadelphia and kept it in Kansas City and eventually Oakland. It would be a shame to drop it at this point.

Also they won’t go to “Aces”, as good as that is, simply to eschew any connection to gambling…

Las Vegas 120 Degrees Days?

It's usually pretty nice at night- low humidity.

Call them the Las Vegas Strippers or just "The Mob."

No, seriously, maybe the Cowboys, the Aces, or a nice singular word: "Neon."

Yeah, MLB wouldn't want to be associated with gambling at this point.

There's already an MiLB stadium there that the A's are thinking of moving to in the meantime. Probably few day games which really only affects getaway days.

Las Vegas Golden Knights.

That has a ring to it.

Golden Knights is kind of clever because it alludes to the Sin City aspects but in an oblique way.

Unlike the Las Vegas Sin.

Other previously used names:

Rattlers

Thunder

Hawks

Aviators

Lights

Ramblers

Vipers

All pretty boring names. I'd go with the Las Vegas Demolition. The logo would be an imploding Vegas hotel.

Already taken by a WNBA team.

There are teams from different sports with the same names- like the NY and SF Giants.

Didn't the Canadian Football League have two Roughriders?

Yes. Technically one was the Rough Riders, which finally got changed to the Redblacks.

Embarrassing LOL

But, didn't it go on for like decades?

Yes.

Too funny!

I still think the Utah Jazz takes the cake, although all those lakes in LA are funny, too.

Lakers are big fat trout. Some guy in Colorado caught one this week weighing over 73 pounds (her belly was full of eggs, so he released her... doubt a hoop tank top would even fit).

Don't forget the Memphis Grizzlies.

I always hoped the St. Louis Cardinals would move to LA instead of AZ, so we'd have the ST. Rams and the LA Cardinals.

The Memphis Grizzlies is a weird one, too.

The Angels taking 4 shots at naming where they play was odd. I wonder, if they are done.

I like that--the Las Vegas Strippers or the Las Vegas Card Counters. The other option would be the Las Vegas Brothels. Along with a casino at the stadium, they could add a brothel as an extra amenity and watch the money roll in. It would give guys something to do in-between innings.

I've heard that the stadium would come equipped with a retractable roof to handle extreme weather conditions.

I wonder what will happen to the Oakland Coliseum when the A's leave. Do they tear it down and build condos? If the Red Sox left Boston and became the Las Vegas Red Sox, would I continue to root for them or would I simply root for the new team in Boston? I'm not sure what I would do, but it will never happen. The problem with Oakland is that they will never get another baseball team and so what does the fan do, continue to root for the team in Las Vegas, stop following baseball, or root for the Giants? When the A's leave Oakland, the Giants should benefit from that and maybe that will factor in as soon as this offseason when the Giants make a push for signing Ohtani. When the Giants and Dodgers left New York, the Mets came to town and some of the fans who once rooted for the Giants and Dodgers turned to the Mets.

Are there fewer Grizzlies in Memphis than there are Lions (or Tigers) in Detroit?

I don’t think they will be going with a family unfriendly name. Might as well suggest Las Vegas Gangsters…

Good point, or Bears in Chicago.
