Rodon: 27 IP, 6.01 xFIP, forearm injury, hamstring injury, out for the year?

Paxton: 75 IP, 3.69 xFIP, 1.3 fWAR, potential QO offer at the end of the year?

Hell, even Sale has more IP than Rodon.

We thought our future budget looked bad a few years back...

The cherry on top is that him getting hurt insured that Severino and his 7 ERA gets to continue making regular starts.

It's just wild that jacko kept minimizing the concerns about Rodon's health this offseason. I wanted no part of that contract on my team. He may give you guys a really good 2 years out of 5, but overall there's a lot of sunk cost in there.

He did the same when Paxton was a Yankee, until he started getting hurt, again.

The fact is, Cashman, like Bloom, tend to sign injury prone players, a lot.

Like after 2019, when the Sox had still $300mill locked up on 11 seasons of Price, Eovaldi and Sale?

Indeed, but also a few of the "good players" getting paid mid range contracts started to decline in production, some even while still in the so-called "prime years."

You couple that with basically no farm infusion, except Houck from 2019-2022, and it's no wonder how restricted winter spending budgets always came up short.

You can "game the system" and get cheaper players by signing the injury risks!

Thanks Dave!

The Yanks with an epic meltdown in Miami. Their closer blew a four-run lead in the ninth in a devastating loss. The players appeared to be shell shocked. In one of the all-time hilarious post-game comments, Boone actually said, " A lot of good things happened out there today. "

Jacko and other Yankee fans would be roasting Bloom, if he had a record like that.

109 million of wasted resources. That's remarkable. With the exception of Donaldson, all of those guys are making comparable money next year. The Yankees have the second highest payroll in baseball this year (only behind the Mets) and can't even make the playoffs. Both New York teams are a disaster, but at least the Mets had the prudence to sell off at the deadline for prospects and begin a rebuild. The Yankees (Cashman) couldn't even figure that out.

I’ve said before and I’ll say again. Cashman messed up and it should cost him his job

...and you still think Boone, too- right?

Yeah, I think Boone is gone after the season. The Yankees fired their hitting coach and that gave us a look into Brian Cashman's demented thinking: pass the blame onto someone else.

Steinbreener will never get rid of Cashman because he doesn't really care about baseball and he treats Cashman like a brother. Cashman will continue to run the Yankees until he decides to retire.

I was watching that ninth inning meltdown against the Marlins. Two things stood out to me. (1) Volope should have gotten an out on that routine grounder. Instead, he fell down and by the time he got up and threw the ball it was too late. He has quick hands but limited range, making him a better fit for 2b. (2) The triple down the first base line, was I the only one to notice that Judge jogged after that ball and didn't hustle or run hard at all? Watch it again on replay--he doesn't go after the ball at full speed as if he didn't care. Is Judge's behavior and lack of effort trickling down to the rest of the team?

Judge has the injured toe so he may have to be given a pass for that.

Boone and Cashman are just what Boston has needed- YES, more and more years for both!

I dunno what it would take for Steinbrenner to replace them. I think Cashman is immune because he's basically part of their family. But Boone? Maybe if they finally finish under .500 he'll get the axe.

Maybe the Yanks can make a nice little run at the end, get close to the playoffs and they can give Boone an extension.

It has been said that the blown save losses can be more devastating to a team than other defeats. I think the crushing meltdown last Sunday took all of the air out of the Yankees. They look like you can stick a fork in them. Completely beaten and demoralised.

In fairness their pitching staff has also been decimated by injuries and suspensions.

HOU has lost 3 from their rotation, almost all year:

GS

0 McCullers

6 Garcia

8 Urquidy

BOS has lost a ton of GS'd, but it's hard to put a number to it, because we don't know who our original 5 would have been. (Sale 12, Paxton 15, Kluber 9, Paxton 11, Whitlock 10)

Having Kluber stay healthy would’ve been more detrimental than the bullpen games.

Agreed.

If you sub Houck for Kluber, thye GS numbers change by 4.

Some might say Bello was always going to be in the starting 5, and that chances the numbers, a lot, but the fact is, we lost a lot of starts from Sale, Paxton, Whitlock and Houck.

Kluber and Pivetta were demoted, so that should not count. Kluber's IL stint can be viewed as a blessing.
