This was all over boston media. Who f***ing wants this guy at his price? Yes, he’s healthy, for now. If he coughs or goes to get a sandwich, he will be out for the year! Sox are better served dealing at the deadline if he stays healthy

Well, this is a twist, other teams having reported interest that won't come to anything.

MLB writers need something, anything to write about over the slow Christmas season.

While all the winning organizations are flying down the autobahn at top speed in their Bugatti Chiron’s and koenigsegg jesko’s, Hang’em Chaim has our 1978 ford pinto on blocks in the garage!

I'd almost bet some GMs are trying to take advantage of Bloom's Grinch status by trying to help him out and taking Sale off his hands -- as long as Chaim agrees to pay half of the contract again. At half price, Chris would be worth taking a flier on, because that's about the cost of an average MLB starter these days.

You can almost hear the devious wheels turning: he did it once with Price... let's see how desperate this sucker is to keep his job in Boston...

If the Sox eat $40mil over the next two years, I’d be willing to deal off a nothing prospect to take him off your hands. His upside is worth the $5-$10mil. But at $29 mil per annum, he isn’t worth it

Sale's tax hit is $25.8 mill. Eating $20 mill a year of it would be colossally stupid.

We are still looking to bolster our starting rotation.

Not .sure it's a wise move to trade him when his value is so low. Despite what our Yankee fan says, Sale still has more upside than anyone else.

Just because someone is drawing trade interest doesn’t mean their making an offer that makes sense for Boston…

Sale is at his lowest value. You don’t deal him now. But Bloom seems to be a special kind of stupid, so look for a discount

That only took 4 posts!!

He was at his lowest value right at the time of surgery. Second lowest, was when they said he'd miss the rest of '22. He's not at the lowest, now.

Why are rumors starting, now?

Like I say, they need something to write about during the slow holiday season.

Looks like a slow news day so they figured they would do a story on this. The only way this happens is if Bloom eats a chunk of this contract. I don't see this happening. If it does and no other players involved Bloom has lost his mind. You have to see what Sale can give you.

Or make some kind of weird deal, like Sale to St. Louis for DeJong and Flaherty…

Can you imagine if we repeat the Betts and Price deal with a similar Devers and Sale deal.

We had fun with the "half Price" aspect of the deal, now, we could just say half-price Sale.

St Louis isn't making that trade. Why would St Louis trade 2 players for unknown production of Chris Sale. That's like me going to Vegas and throwing my life savings on the roulette. Way to risky

The point is using those two is DeJong is a salary dump at $11mill for a player who hasn’t hit (OPS+ 76 in last 3 seasons) since his rookie year, and Flaherty (114 IP in the last 2 seasons) is just as risky as Sale, possibly more so. And is likely to get a raise over his $5mill salary in 2022.

Of course DeJong and Flaherty also each have one year of control left, and likely cost a little over $16mill total. With 2 years and $55mill left, St. Louis might prefer the smaller risk as well.

This deal might still be unlikely but is probably a best case scenario for a Sale trade that will at best return bad contracts, injury risks or both…

If Sale is traded, Red Sox fans' favorite part will be getting to watch him pitch for someone else while Boston still pays half his salary.

Posters' favorite part will be getting to blame Dave Dombrowski, even if Chaim Bloom reinvests the savings in wins Below replacement players...

After 48 IP in 3 years, I wouldn’t be upset trading Sale even if he was healthy. He’s been the most frustrating player on the team the past 3 years…

But you might not like it if he returns to health and form with another team while we pay a big chunk of his salary.

And a lot of people might not want to watch Sale stay and pitch 6 IP next year before getting taken out for the season in some freak accident like getting trampled in a goat stampede or struck by a meteor while navigating a crosswalk…

As the numbers I just posted in the 2023 rotation thread show, Sale had a higher fWAR in his 6 2022 innings than 3 of the other guys in our 2023 list. :(

He also made more pro-rated money for than those six IP than the other three starters made all year.

Not sure what your point is. “But they were six really good innings.”…

The point was mainly a joke, what some call gallows humor...

Put it this way, injury-wise and s*****-luck-wise, Sale is a prime candidate for regression...

He is.

I know there is the slim chance he could bounce back if dealt, but for three seasons now he’s been an Injured List Msinstay and I wouldn’t blame the FO one bit of they unloaded him.

I do ironically see that as a white flag on 2023, because really, as it stands now, the season does rest on the performance of Sale and Paxton, precarious as that is…
