I know Duvall is a FA, but I included him in the comps because I'm wondering if Abreu would be an improvement on D, and there is chance Duvall is brought back.

We will not trade both Dugo and Duran.

Final game of the year. Abreau with a hit, rbi and walk.

I am really hopeful that this kid gets a shot to stick next year in Boston.

I hope so, too.

They might leave one slot open for Rafaela or Abreu, and allow the other to try and oust Refsnyder from his back-up/platoon role.

I am hopeful verdugo gets traded this offseason.

I still think this is our last chance to get trade value for Duran.

It seems a year ago, everyone and their uncle would have rushed at the chance of getting anything of value for Duran. Now, some think he's borderline untouchable.

I do think we should see what we can get for Dugo or Duran but not both. I'm not for handing anyone away.

If you trade Duran, you only have one year left of Dugo, so you have neither of them in 2025.

Yes, that is an issue. If both Rafaela and Abreu don't work out, we'll need to add a platoon bat for Ref at minimum and 1 or two more OF'ers, unless...

We move Yoshi back to LF

Anthony is ML ready

Rosier surprises (or someone else)

On this front, trading Dugo makes more sense.

It's widely believed Duran would bring back a better return, due to his years of control, speed and upside potential.

I think most of us think we will need a major trade to go along with some key signings, but nobody agree on who that might be. If you look at our roster and system, to me, it seems like the OF is the deepest.

Duvall did come up as a corner IF. Maybe he can play backup 1B in 24 as well?

He has played some 1B, and could be that RHB we may need. With Duvall, I would think we would have to trade a LHB OF'er (Duran or Verdugo.) We DFA (or trade) Dalbec and let JT walk.

If Rafaela makes the opening day roster, I could see us trading Refsnyder, despite his nice splits and our need for hitting vs LHPs. With Yoshida at DH and back-up LF, we can't have too many OF'er on the 26.

I suggested that Ref could be traded as well. Cheap contract. May not fit the Sox needs perfectly right now.

If we don't add a RHB in the OF, he may be worth keeping as a platoon.

I think we trade Dugo and sign Duvall:

without Ref...

LF: Duran?Abreu (Yoshida)

CF: Rafaela/Abreu

RF: Duvall/Abreu

Or we trade verdugo and Duran and sign Hunter renfoe to a minor league deal snd stash him in Worcester

Renfroe will get a MLB deal.

Your faith in Duran, Rafaela and Abrue is unmatched. Ref & Yoshi would be the back-ups.

I wonder if Miami would be interested in yoshida and verdugo for a pitcher?

Then we can move devers, the defensive menace, to DH. I think Chapman is a right handed bat?

Duran, Rafeala and abreau is a pretty fast outfield.

BTV accepted Yoshida and Verdugo for Cabrera, still I doubt they make that deal. They don't want Yoshida's money, and even verdugo would be an expensive one year deal for a team that does not really want to take on payroll.

I agree with Moon, a Duran/Rafaela/Abreu outfield is one that we would be putting a lot of faith into.

Duran - has had many ups/downs in his young career. Looked like he finally figured it out this year, but in the second half he put up .696 OPS. The improved defense raises his floor, but he may not be more than a 1-2 war player, nice but not great.

Rafaela - A rookie who is completely untested, the defense will be good but the bat has the capacity to fall apart at the MLB level. In a small sample size in Boston, he put up a .666 OPS with 28 K's to 4 walks.

Abreu Just like Rafaela, but without the defensive floor. Perhaps more upside with the bat but does not profile as a premium bat and scouts have platoon concerns. Very untested with less than 100 MLB at bats, and went stone cold the last couple of weeks.

I'm not saying all three of those guys won't be great, but 1-2 of them may fail, and even if all three succeed, you can have immense growing pains with all three. Too much unproven youth in my opinion, which creates too much uncertainty.

That outfield could be really bad.

To me, counting on those 3 alone to fill just 2 slots is risky, but I’m okay with 2 not 3. By year’s end, maybe they own all 3: maybe they own just 1.

Yeah, I'm all about the youth movement, but it's not like any of those guys are All star MVP caliber potential, and it's just too many eggs in one basket for me. A good team needs balance of proven talent that is a veteran presence and young, gifted athletes playing at the min.

If next year was a rebuilding year with no aspirations of competing, that outfield could work to see what you got. And, the 2025 FA is loaded with pitching too. Could make sense to load up that year with Mayer and Anthony looking to break thru to the bigs.

But, I'm not sure anyone can stomach a non-compete thrown away year at this point. Maybe not even John Henry.

They could make all moves with ‘25 in mind while still boosting our chances in ‘24 by enough to keep fans happy.

I will say, I think that’s what they did in ‘22 and ‘23, and it failed spectacularly.

soxprospects.com gave out 3 awards:

Tristan Casas- Graduate of the Year

Brayan Bello- Homegrown Player of the Year

Mookie Betts- Ex-Prospects of the Year

Posted

Today's awards:

Rookie of the Year: Yoeilin Cespedes (.346/.392/.560, ranking second, eighth and first, respectively, among system hitters with more than 150 plate appearances)

Comeback Player of the Year: Grant Gambrell (620 days between games) Maybe he and Wink will make that Beni trade look like a real good one.

Breakout Player of the Year: Roman Anthony (He started the year at No. 11 in the SoxProspects.com rankings, but wasn't on the radar in Top 100 lists. He is now No. 2 on SoxPropsects and is in Baseball America's top 20, sitting at No. 19.

Well deserved for these 3.

Can Drohan get his command and control back and come tribute to the Red Sox bullpen in 2024? I do not see his stuff being good enough to be a starter

Sadly only winkleman has electric stuff.

Monegro has more moxie than stuff

The rest of the pitchers on that list are at best relievers.

Hang’em Chaim’s indifference toward pitching is a total head scratcher
