You are missing what the talk was about.

No, moon. Dipre is right. I don't know what you're missing about this conversation.

He hasn't swung more than last year. He has the same pitch selection. It's not good! He's impatient! When he takes a pitch, it's usually by design and not because he sees a pitch he doesn't like. He'll go up there and say "well I need to take a pitch so I'll take a pitch now." He needs to learn what pitches are the right ones to swing at. We've been talking about this same exact thing for the past year.

They are asking him to be "selective" not to simply just take more pitches. They don't want him to just sit around and get into an 0-2 count for the sake of doing so. He's still swinging out of his shoes more often than not. The only difference this year has been is that his SLG is down.

2022: 3.623 P/PA

2023: 3.600 P/PA

He's not taking any additional pitches per PA this season. In fact, it's in line with last season in AA.

Kavadas sees 4.732.

The player that I saw with a lower P/PA than Rafaela was Christian Koss, who is not know for having a very patient approach either.

On the 10th pitch of the AB, your favorite prospect’s favorite prospect goes deep for a two-run shot.

The second home run of the year for the Boston Red Sox prospect.

Huh?

I said he is not taking more pitches than last year.

I asked you, if he has swung more. I did not state it as a fact or opinion.

NO.

Moon: "So, maybe pitchers have been throwing pitches closer to the zone than they did, last year, and that's why he's swung at more?" INCORRECT STATEMENT

Dipre: "That's not it. Dude likes to swing and swing hard. They want him to swing hard at his pitch." CORRECT STATEMENT

Moon: "You are missing what the talk was about." WRONG

Can you try to pay attention. There was a question mark, so it was not a STATEMENT!

I was asking to try and find out why. I was not implying it was why.

My only "statement" was: "I'm sure the Sox have tried to get him to take more pitches. It is not happening, though."

Was that "WRONG?"

It's not negating the fact that they still want him to "swing hard." I never addressed that point.

MLB selects this Sox pitcher as our "hottest pitching prospect" ...

Red Sox: Dalton Rogers, LHP (No. 24)

A surprise third-round pick out of Southern Mississippi last July, Rogers stands out with the low release height and flat plane on a 91-96 mph fastball that hitters can't seem to barrel. He has given up just three runs while striking out 28 in his last 17 innings, and he has an overall 2.49 ERA, .139 opponent average and 38 strikeouts in 21 2/3 frames in Single-A.

Oy vey. The point is, the dude needs to work on his plate approach, not just the amount of pitches he sees.

Yes. I never disagreed with that or even hinted otherwise.

Let's move on.

Walter was brought in after an opener. That clearly didn't do the trick. I don't know if it was the injury that stopped his development or if his stuff just wasn't good enough to make it in AAA. I believe his velo is down this year. Frustrating for sure.

Coffey probably gets into the top 60 in the next rankings. I don't see any reason to start a hype train for him though.

Coffey has fanned 22 and walked zero in his last 2 starts combined (12 IP). (24 Ks and 0 BB in last 13 IP!)

On the season, he has 61 Ks and 7 BBs with just 1 HR allowed 56 IP.

Jordan is up over .300 on the season. The power may not be off the charts, but the swing is shorter and to the ball!

We should start seeing more upward movement of prospects in the coming months. How well these kids do at their new levels is always interesting to follow.

We've had a few of our best prospects start out, slowly, this year, but we've also had our fair share of rising prospects and a few near the top doing very well.

End of season rankings and 2023 starts:

1, Mayer- Good

2. Casas- okay at big level

3. Bleis- Bad

4. Rafaela- Bad

5. Yorke- Good

6. Mata- Bad

7. Romero- N/A (Injured)

8. Walter- Bad

9. Anthony- Okay

10. Perales- Good

11. Paulino- Good

12. Wikelman- Bad

13. Murphy- Bad

14. Lugo- Okay

15. Jordan- Good

16. Bonaci- Good

17. Valdez- Good

18. Hickey- Good

19. E R-C- Good

20. Kavadas- Okay

Good: Hamilton, Abreu, Guerrero, Ravelo, Fernandez

Noah Song has been transferred to the 60 day IL by the Phillies. That lower back must be really bad.

I believe he has to be on their active roster for 90 days in 2023 regardless.

The latest he can be called up is July 3rd. But if they wait that long, he cannot go on the Injured List for the rest of the season.

Still think the Phillies would be smart to simply work out a trade for Song…

Pivetta or Kluber for Song. Maybe a two for one special bargain basement deal.

Kavadas has 8 HRs in May.

His OBP is at .400, again.

Some doubted he could do this at the AA level, and it took him a while to adjust, but he may be ready for AAA, soon.

The Sox are not trading for Song.
