The 3 HR's that Drohan gave up:

Scott Kingery age 29, 1,127 MLB PA's

Weston Wilson age 28, 3rd season in AAA

Jim Haley age 28, 2nd season in AAA

These guys have been around. Drohan is seeing more experienced competition. Time to adjust.

Eye-witness report from the Portland game...

Half-empty: Rafaela is still swinging at every pitch, as if he's ignoring selectivity for more results that will lead to promotion. Yorke has adopted the Trevor Story stance of draping the bat down over his shoulder, which we've seen makes it very difficult to be on time vs. velo.

Half-full: Lugo's swing and hard contact look solid. His at bats exude confidence. Hickey was very impressive as a lefty batter, slicing extra base hits to the opposite field and motoring around the bases at a higher speed than the average catcher. On the mound, Sharp looked taller than his reported 6'3, with a release point coming over his shoulder that makes the heater hotter. Gomez threw strikes and Fernandez threw gas. Both have potential to move up soon.

The Seadogs are a first-place team that should be taken seriously... at least until next year, when new owners have reportedly decided to change their name to --

I once read they had one of the most successful logos in all of the minors and even beat out some major league teams in merch sales. Why change?

For those who gave up on Duran, or nearly did, are we willing to give Dalbec another significant look?

Even if we are, where would be play and at whose expense?

They're reportedly looking to trade him.

They must be hoping to sell more food concessions. But good luck with a new logo... can uniforms and caps fit an outdoor social gathering where seafood is served? The whole thing stinks of low tide.

They've been playing him at different positions, perhaps to up his trade value or to just find a place he can help the big club.

1B seems to be all for Casas with Turner offering a break vs some tough lefties.

DH is locked up with Turner and Yoshida, when Turner plays 1B.

2B and SS were never realistic long term positions for Dalbec.

Trading him does make some sense. Too bad it would be a trade at a lower value than it might have been previously (or perhaps later.)

No, Dalbec currently has a 34% k rate in AAA which would be a career high for him at that level.

That is an awful K rate and even higher than his 2018 rate in the minors (32%.)

The main issue, to me, with dalbec is that the BB rate never has transferred to the bigs.

Played 3B and 1B in college as well as catcher. If he can hit, they can get him in at 1B/3B/LF/DH....not the sexiest profile, but if he can hit and field a few of those positions there can be a home for him.

it's not like a guy never came up as a catcher, sucked as a catcher, and learned to play elsewhere because he can hit. Maybe he can be our Schwarber.

I remember there was a lot of talk about him getting 1 million dollar signing bonus. Some people thought that money could have gone to Jud Fabian, or that perhaps they had it for Hickey because they couldn't sign Jud.

For him to have that profile, the bat just really needs to play and can't take a step back. As a merely below average catcher, his bat is getting him to MLB no question. He's bad enough they may take away his catcher's mitt before next season.

Could the next soxprospects.com rankings see Hickey and E R-C move up, significantly.

I gotta think Mata and Walter might drop some. Wikelman, too.

Paulino has warmed up a little. Lugo has not taken a step up, like last year.

How high can/will they move EValdez up?

I might go...

1. Mayer

2. Bleis

3. Rafaela

4. Yorke

5. Drohan

6. E Valdez

7. Hickey

8. Mata

9. Romero

10. Anthony

11. Perales

12. Walter

13. Paulino

14. E R-C

15. Jordan

16. Lugo

17. Wikelman

18. Hamilton

19. Abreu

20. Meidroth

(Out: Murphy)

Do you refer to Valdez the Big Leaguer with a higher OPS than Devers? As for sample size, he's already played in almost half the games this season (which will be one-third over next week).

Hickey was definitely the best AA hitter I saw live this week, way better than Rafaela and Yorke. I didn't notice any major flaws behind the dish, either -- for CERA fans, all three Portland pitchers that night looked really good. But maybe he makes the Show as an Alfaro type.

Others: Rosier looked surprisingly dangerous with the bat; Meidroth looked surprisingly harmless. Lugo looked solid.

Yes, Enmanuel Valdez, 2B Boston.

I doubt they move him up past 9th or 10th.

I think Valdez graduates fairly soon. He may graduate before he'd get into the top 10.

They're really high on Anthony, and love the underlying data on him. But I can see him jumping Walter and sneaking into the top 10 right before he graduates. Remember, the defense is below average and he has yet to get ONE hit vs. LHP. He's doing GREAT for what they're asking of him, but it's a small sample size and to date he looks exactly as advertised, sub standard defense at 2nd and can hit righties.

Probably not good enough for top 10, but proving it at the MLB level should give a little boost.

I'd put Valdez ahead of Walter.

Also, Lugo is NOT better than Valdez. Not even close.

Hickey and Abreu should probably be closer to #10 than they are now as well.

Yea, I think I short-changed Abreu.

He's been really great this season. I wasn't sure what to expect. I heard that his ceiling was potentially higher than Valdez because of the defense. He's built like a running back and is just putting good exit velos up each night. Potential to play all 3 OF positions.
