I get Arroyo DH for JD, but the only place Franchy should be playing is back in Worcester with Duran. Franchy sucks on D, and can’t hit either. Bad move by Cora to play him.

Maybe the 4 HRs in his last 29 PAs and the near complete lack of power by the Sox was one reason.

(I'm not defending Franchy or Cora, but that is one possible reason.)

Tampa also has a lot of guys who get hits in the clutch which the Red Sox do not.

They are hitting in the clutch against the worst bullpen in the history of baseball. Or something like that.

Poche ate their sack of lunch with a slow curve below the strike zone. I don't see too many opponents who chase breaking balls quite the way our lineups tend to.

That stolen base was made possible by noodle arm Plawecki. A very big play in the inning.

Plawecki shouldn’t be on the roster next year either

If you were watching closely, the base runner got a huge jump on Familia.

Honestly, though, tell me how many times you've seen a manager remove a catcher because of his arm, and I'm talking about including the days SBs were actually a thing, too.

The presumption, a not unreasonable one, is that Plawecki is better handling the pitchers.

The Rays got one HBP and two doubles in that inning. Also, the baserunner stealing 2b got a huge jump.

He barely made it because of the weak throw.

I think he's only on the roster to mentor Wong and McGuire, but it doesn't mean we have to play him.

Sometimes I actually wonder if faux genius Cora has ever heard of 'defensive replacements.'

I have never seen that move made-replacing a catcher to try to prevent a SB

Yet he’s in the lineup along with Cordero!

Besides, Varitek is a much better mentor.

Yes he had a little power surge when he came back up just like he did the first time, but 1-12 with 8 k’s in his last 12 AB is almost like him striking out 15 out of 16 his last time around . Arroyo should be in the line up, or DH. Franchy should not, and he not a good OF either.

Here's how the game ends: Arroyo doubles as a PH'er for Plawecki. Pham grounds out to move Arroyo to 3B, and then Dugo doubles him in.

Bogey gets his 3rd his and an actual RBI and we get a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth from Barnes.

(Ooops, I must have dozed off...)

So Cora knows the Rays like to run and in a close game he leaves his weakest throwing catcher in the game. Please defend that.

Dave O’Brien has to bite his tongue to keep from saying what he really thinks of the Sox.

I wonder if Eck would have retired if the team was watchable. I think he got sick of watching bums.

I'd have started Arroyo, too. Pham in LF.

Maybe this was "Pham's rest day."

Hitting with MOB, and leaky BP. Same ole, same ole.

How about putting a pitcher in the game who can actually keep guys off the bases.
