When has a fringe prospect won a DH job outright out of spring training? especially when we've seen that spring training offense doesn't always translate into the season? I highly doubt he breaks camp with Boston next year.

Bob Hamelin did win the job as a rookie for the Royals one year and went on to be AL ROY…

True, but that was 30 years ago and he was a top 100 prospects, at least one point he was. So, that kind of makes my point. It's unlikely.

That was almost 30 years ago. He had a respectable career that only lasted about five years after that.

Bob Hamelin is also the man who heavily scouted Whitlock and advised the Sox to take him in the Rule 5 draft.

Also, Bob Hamelin was on the grassy knoll…

He should get an award for that.

Can't believe I missed some good Bob Hamelin talk because of the hurricane. :(

Adjust your priorities accordingly….

And slav thought he’d be part of a dynamic platoon capable of OPSing .775

I was on that crazy train too. Just because Hoz was so cheap and it would free up money elsewhere. Oh well.

I'm sure a master plan is unfolding.

They’re actually tearing down. The worst thing for the Sox rebuild was 2021. It prevented them from doing what they needed. This year is gonna be bad for the Sox barring some unforeseen miracle.

Sox acquire Hosmer. Bloom fan: " Good move by Bloom. He comes very cheap and kills right handers. Good platoon candidate. " Sox DFA Hosmer. Bloom fan: " Hosmer is over the hill. He was a waste of roster space. Good move by Bloom. "

Hosmer was a good move because it cost nothing to get him, and you paid him the league minimum. He was Casas insurance. If his value went up, great, It didn’t….whatever.

It was never an earth shattering acquisition to begin with so it’s whatever with me. I actually think this is a good sign, they are making room for someone on the roster.

When they acquired Hosmer, the only thing I liked was his salary. I’ve called him DFA fodder since day one. Not surprised.

I will be surprised if they can work out a trade (which Hosmer would be able to veto)…
