Kelly doesn't have a good walk rate. His k rate didn't play up at the MLB level last season. Until it does, that walk rate keeps him behind Brasier. He still had a 4 ERA.

Crawford didn't pitch all that great out of the pen. His walk rate was really bad out there.

Neither guy has anything greater than a middle relief ceiling in the pen. I think they are about in the same tier of pitcher. Brasier is much more expensive though.

Crawford had a good stretch as a starter. If he was the 7th or 8th starter, that would make sense to me.

Winckowski just strikes me as a reliever…

Low leverage and 2-3 Innings (once through the line-up)

If Winckowski can't get his strike out numbers up, he's not going to be useful for a team that wants to be competitive. He's a right handed Wade Miley.

Are you referring to 12 year MLB veteran Wade Miley? The same Wade Miley who has been worth as many fWAR in fewer starts as Nick Pivetta in the past 5 years?

I’ve heard worse complaints about pitchers…

And to think he’s also already turned down $400M+.

Over 15 years. He might be amenable to that same cash over 10-12 years…

Why? So he can sign another contract at 36 or 37?

I think he'll want a 14 year deal for $450M+.

That’s not much different than Washington’s last offer of $440mill over 15…

It's not going to be about AAV for 12 years.

It will be more than $450M/14- more likely $465M/15 or more.

With arb numbers now finalized, cots has the Sox estimated at $203.5M or $29.5M below the first tax line.

Fangraphs has us at $209.4 or $23.6 under.

Spotrac has us at $204.9 or $28.6 under.

Which ever service is right, we should have over $23M to spend on at least 2 from these 3 positions: SS, 2B or CF and maybe even another decent pitcher.

Andrus probably wants to much money, and more than a year.

If he goes somewhere else for 2 * 12 or something like that, I'll puke.

Story changed Bloom’s plans, but this whole IF situation is turning out harder than it should be it appears.

Right now it is possible the Sox are left with 40 players they don’t want to DFA, which makes signing players difficult. What the Sox want (off this is true) is a player to sign a minor league deal that they can promote once teams can place players on the 60 day IL again…

The Red Sox have more problems than worrying who’s on the back end of the 40 man.

And leave 2b vacant?

I'd feel better with Arroyo, EValdez and even Bobby Dee at 2B than Duran in CF.

We could also sign Andrus and trade for Wendle.

It can't be about the money with Andrus. It must be he wants 3 years or 2 with a hefty 3rd year option buy out.

I'd say give it to him, just don't have a no trade clause.

I think Bloom is just doing his signature move in trying to look for that third option in the fork in the road. It worked out so good last time.
