Roster management still a concern

Lack of bench depth was evident today vs Seattle despite the win and sweep

There is zero speed which could have been used twice in later innings to pinch run for Dalbec and Vazquez. Vazquez thrown out at home because of it

Same said for lack of pinch hitters

Just think, if Orlando used the Story money to sign Jansen as Closer in a perfect world your 25 16 a few back of Division lead

It’s mind boggling how incompetent the Front Office has been

Wow. You’re trolling again shows your cluelessness.

Pinch run for Dalbec and Vazquez? Dalbec is already one of the fastest guys on the team. But more important, Vazquez was the second catcher in the game (this means there were none left if they didn’t win. That’s bad.)

But really, pickling on the bench?

Said it before but it’s worth repeating. We got some stupid trolls. I curse Bill Gates for making the PC so accessible with his software that even people too stupid to troll right can operate one…

What a crazy weekend, this just reinforces that in sports you never really know what will happen which is why sports is so great. Whitlock gets hammered and Matt Barnes gets the save. I'll still never understand why Cora did this but like most of his moves it worked. Next Frenchy hits a game winning grand slam, I just laughed as nobody saw that coming.

Great comeback. Maybe he wants us to carry 3 catchers. You know, better roster management.

I was kinda surprised STORK even made an appearance, but it's obvious he's in la-la-land.

Notice no Swi? He says he's a big Sox fan, but he only comes around, when we are losing.

https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2022/05/franchy-cordero-becomes-boston-red-sox-hero-after-being-designated-for-assignment-in-october-he-brings-a-lot-of-joy-to-the-team.html

In a lineup filled with offensive stars, Cordero was an unlikely hero, but one the Red Sox were happy to rally around.

“There’s a lot of guys in that clubhouse who are very happy,” said manager Alex Cora. “Very quietly, he brings a lot of joy to the team and the energy.”

“To put the work is gratifying,” Cora said. “Last year wasn’t great. We designated him for assignment but we were happy that he was back with us. From the Dominican Republic to spring training, you can see it. He’s doing an outstanding job controlling the zone. We’re very proud of him.”

Before his 10th-inning homer, Cordero didn’t have much to show for the rockets he was hitting all over the field. He hit four balls harder than 95.6 mph -- including a 109.5 mph lineout and 103.2 mph groundout -- but was 0-for-4 before launching the home run. With two outs and an 0-2 count, Cordero stayed back on a slider from Mariners reliever Andres Muñoz and didn’t miss. The homer traveled 419 feet and left the bat at 106.1 mph.

The reception Cordero got from his teammates wasn’t just because the Red Sox had won in dramatic fashion. Quietly, Cordero has become one of the most well-liked players on the team. Those in Worcester rave about his character, and though he’s not particularly outgoing, he has made his mark in Boston, too. Cora credited Cordero with coming up with some of Boston’s celebrations, like waving to the dugout after a hit and another meant to “break the bad spirits.”

“He’s really easy to root for,” said Christian Arroyo. “He’s a great teammate, he’s a great player. He’s got a lot of really good tools.”

If Xander or Devers walks it off, he doesn't make an appearance. However, the dastardly Franchy Cordero had to do it. Disgusting act.

Well said.

And don't forget that Barnes got hammered too, except two of those really hard shots were catchable. He pitched the 9th because Cora had already used Danish, Diekman, Robles, and Schreiber.

I think Swi just used this site to vent. And hey, if making a few idiotic posts helps him get through the day with shaving some wild birds or setting his underwear on fire, I see no harm…

The guy dislikes every Sox player, coach, manager and GM, except Devers. I find it hard to think of a fan that dislikes so much about "his team."

Barnes has pitched better this year than Robles.

@Jared_Carrabis

The Red Sox have the best record in baseball since Alex Cora shaved his beard on May 10.

The Red Sox really need Cordero to find his way and step up. Hopefully, this will be the start of something good--the Red Sox need that extra bat. There are too many holes in the lineup, with the two bozos in RF, the shoddy hit tool of Dalbec, Vazquez's decline, and the disappointing Verdugo. Edited by Fan_since_Boggs

I've not given up on Dalbec, Verdugo or Kike's bats. Any one could fill in with a hot streak, if Cordero's is not sustained.

I've all but given up on Vaz.

JBJ is always tough to project.

Vaz has a .723 OPS in May after .523 in April.

Yes, but I've still lost hope.

The guy hit close to .800 from '19-'20, but he seems to have lost that groove.

I wish we had gotten Stallings.

I haven't given up on Wong. He is a very good, athletic defensive catcher. The Red Sox just need him to hit a little and he could be the guy who takes over the starting job next year. He is starting to hit much better in AAA now, we will see if that continues.

@redsoxstats

The Red Sox offense has gone from 28th in April to 3rd in May

They need to keep winning and hope the Yankees cool down. Basically they need to get to 500 again and have a long winning streak.

Yankees aren't going to end the season with a .700 winning percentage.

However, I don't think the Sox need to necessarily worry about the division or even playoff positioning right now. They just need to right themselves.

Keep righting themselves, yes.

I might count on him as the back-up, but we need a real catcher in '23.

You're probably right. But the Red Sox need a CF, RF, and C next season, and they may need a 2b as well (if they don't resign Bogaerts and move Story to SS). As such, I'm trying to cut corners with catcher and invest more heavily in the other positions. Where do the Red Sox find a starting catcher anyway, there are so few available?

Just a catcher and a 2b. Maybe a RF, but both Bradley and Duran (assuming he isn’t traded) are back next year…

If we have the same budget, next year, we should have about $100-110M to spend on...

SP

SP/RP

RP

2B

CF

C

RF

That's 7 major slots and assuming 1B/DH will be covered by Casas/Dalbec/Cordero.

I'm not counting on...

Arroyo/Downs/Fitzy to cover 2B

Duran/Cordero/Verdugo/JBJ/Fitzy to cover the whole OF

Wong/RHern/Cottam to cover C and back-up C

Bello/Winckowski/Seabold/Walter/Groome/Mata/German to cover a major pitching slot

But out of all of these, I dislike the catching choices the most.

I agree with you but righting themselves doesn’t mean winning two and losing two afterwards. They need to get to 500 first and foremost.

Yes, the bid 3 beyond pitching are (in no order) 2B, C, CF/RF.

In 4th place might be RF/CF.

Depending on where we decide to play Whitlock and Houck, we'll need at least 3 solid pitchers.

That's 6-7 major slots to fill with perhaps $110M to spend (per year). That's not chump change.

In the past 2 seasons, Bloom had about $40M to fill 10 slots before '21 and about $60M to fill 8 slots, this past winter.

Dalbec one of the fastest guys on the Team, your joking right? Lol

How many Pitchers in the bullpen now, 16?

When you have to use your backup catcher for the day to pinch hit speaks volume but I know looking through those pink hat glasses clouds your judgment

No closer

No bench

No 1B production

No RF production

Meanwhile thanks to Orlando, AB in KC .329 815 - Chavis .321 829

And I’m the idiot ? Lol

Well, yes. You are the idiot.

But Dalbec’s 27.7 ft/sec is faster than everyone on the Yankees except IKF. (Yes, he is faster than Hicks.)

He ranks third in the Sox behind Cordero and Story. (But not Duran, who will bump him down a notch when he gets promoted.)

Can we get a troll with a clue?
