Will be interesting to see what we do with Sale. Is he trade bait? Do we shut him down if we are out of contention when he gets healthy?

Sale and Paxton aren't going to make a difference unless one can pitch the 8th and the other only pitches the 9th.
.

That might not be a bad idea.

Three years is way to long too cuddle this guy, what is he a China doll that needs to sit on a shelf, he has more excuses than Carter has little liver pills, some players lose velocity and can’t recover. It’s time for him to sink or swim. The one thing this club is good for is holding on to marginal players way to long, and getting rid of the good ones because they want to be paid.

Sale is owed $55million for 2023 and 2024. Plus the balance of his $30mil this year assuming he gets dealt. He’s not trade bait. He’s a guy you have to attach to legitimate trade bait in order to unload him..,

Like Bogey and Sale (with some cash) to the Dodgers?

Like Betts & Price.

Sure.

Let’s just get back a pitcher this time. I’d be ok with Graterol…

It actually boggles the mind how willing some fans are to let Bogaerts and Devers get away.

Who said anything about Devers? Ever?

Bogaerts has left himself in a rough spot. His opt out was poorly timed and the Sox got proactive in replacing him. That took away any leverage his agent had.

And it doesn’t appear there has been much willingness to negotiate; no one knows what it would take to keep him…

Yeah, we don't need Bogey, we got Story!

Barring a massive turnaround, does it do any good to hold on to Bogaerts? He reportedly plans to opt out and this team is going nowhere unless some bats wake up very, very quickly…

I think it's a cinch he's traded, if we are out of it by the deadline- maybe even if we are back in it, too, but not a cinch.

Other last year of control players:

JD

Eovaldi

Kike

Wacha

Hill

Strahm

Robles

Vaz

Plawecki

Anyone in the final year of their deal is on sale. If you’re willing to open your prospect pursestrings further, guys with another year of control can be had for a king’s ransom. Eovaldi and Bogey are guaranteed to be dealt

Bogaerts will waive his no-trade clause, and not just because of a chance to play for a club doing what it takes to win. The front office made sure of it before the season by letting him know how much he wasn't wanted here.

I wouldn’t guarantee either is dealt.

The hottest deadline commodity is always relief pitching. Eovaldi as a starter should have a market, but the Sox also might not get enough of an offer and might value the exclusive negotiation rights they get by keeping him.

Bogaerts requires a specific case to be dealt - a contending team that needs a shortstop. Especially given his preference to not change positions. There aren’t really any teams that fit that bill except maybe the Yankees. And that deal is a little tough to foresee happening. But certainly injuries can happen sound the league…

In theory, we could get a lot by dealing anyone and everyone with a year left.

Then, we could spend as much as this year and replace all those needing replacing and maybe improve. After all, price's $16M comes off the books, and replacing guys like Vaz & Plawecki should not be hard with their $10M.

Replacing Strahm and wacha will not be easy at their prices.

Replacing Nate, JD and Bogey will not be easy, either, but add Price's $16M and we'll have about $75M of their money to do it. (Maybe Nate comes back at $20M and JD at $10M per.)

The Angels might take 2 months of Bogey. If the Philles get in the race, they may, as well.

Possible contenders with low SS OPS, so far:

.415 STL

.420 LAA

.599 PHI

.624 TOR

.650 LAD

.659 SDP

.665 SFG

.694 MN

.695 NYY

I think barring injury, we can safely assume Toronto (Bichette) and Minnesota (Correa) will not be acquiring a shortstop unless said shortstop is willing to move to 2b. LAD might, assuming Turner is willing to move again. But they won’t be replacing a healthy Turner and sending him to the bench…

Agreed. I almost did not even list TOR or MN, and I doubt Bogey agrees to play 2B for even 2 months.

There's a pretty good chance that correa excercises his opt out though.

Bogaerts isn’t a solution there…

Do you see any " hot commodities " in the Sox bullpen? The Dodgers might be interested in Xander . Turner could play second. And the Dodgers don't seem to mind spending a buck or two. I don't think Xander would object to that deal either.
