Actually the Betts trade has worked out pretty well considering the Sox were never going to be able to sign him and they acquired two starters…

They could have signed him, they didn't want to.

Mookie has been so classy and so smart since he left. Not a single word against his former team.

Still kind of hard to believe the uber-rich Red Sox could not hold onto one of the very best players in their history in his prime.

Embarrassing is a word for it. Thanks, John.

IMHO both Dombrowski and Bloom are entirely blameless in Mookie's departure. JH drew a financial line in the sand. Mookie said himself if he got the Dodgers offer from the Sox he would have taken it. Maybe Mookie was just being politically correct, but there's no evidence to contradict what he said...

Betts did turn down basically the same AAV from Boston, but for two less years.

Of course once DD signed Bogaerts and Sale, Betts tenure in Boston had an impact expiration date…

The direction to move on from Mookie had to come from Henry.

Decisions on a player of that magnitude and cost are ownership decisions.

The HOBOs are just hired hands who can be fired any time.

Devers would be better player but he is still too immature. He needs a strong big brother presence around him such as Bogaerts. Xander 's departure has adversely affected Devers play IMO

Oh wonderful, they spent over 300M on someone who's immature and needs a binky. Money well spent

I think signing Sale and Bogaerts ended any attempt to…

Let's not start ragging on Raffy now. Did he say anything that suggests immaturity, or is he just in a slump?

Raffy is a good player but far from a 300M man. He's like a 1 tool player. Hitting. You can't be giving out contracts like this for someone who only impacts the game on hitting. He's not a good baserunner nor a great fielder. His IQ is not the greatest either based on some of his base running blunders

Since mid-April, his OPS is around .700.

I know the argument is he’s being pitched around, but usually when a hitter gets pitched around, he draws a fair amount of walks. Devers has 14 walks since April 16. For some perspective, in that same timeframe, Refsnyder has 10…

Lots of insider knowledge here.

We have to figure things out for ourselves, because the Sox FO:

1) Lies a lot.

2) Employs a policy of omerta to perfection.

Devers is going to be fine. Something about the Betts negotiation seems odd to me. Maybe the FO felt he didn't want to be here? they've never really been shy about spending money to keep their own guys if they feel they warrant it.

Raffy looks lost. Anyone who actually watches him play as opposed to listening or reading about the games should be able to see that. He is not the same player he was last year.

In his defense, the whole team is a mess. He is just the most overpaid player for his sub par performance on a pathetically mediocre team.

I'm not hating on Devers. I'm hating on management

1. Devers is not a 300M man.

2. Devers only has one skill: hitting.

3. Devers doesn't have a good IQ.

4. Devers is possibly immature and needs a binky.

5. Not hating on Devers though!

I had to look that up. That's not what we call it in Spanish.

On topic: That's not exclusive to this FO.

Not the first or last time a player signs a huge deal and struggles out of the gate. And what does watching him play or not have to do with anything? We all watch him, but the results are plain as day, that's not the point.

There's a mountain of pressure on Devers with that contract and the fact that it's "his" team now.

Devers has been a disappointment so far this season. I just don't think he's truly a #1 $300 million player. I think he has a better chance of being that guy if you slide a big-time bat in next to him. I think he can be a 1A 1B type player in the same way that Ortiz/Manny were to each other.

Just another reason to go hard after Ohtani next year.

The Matt Dermody debacle is a good reason to fire Bloom now...look, he did the right thing and didn't let a stupid religious tweet (deleted, told to Bloom and explained and then took sensitivity training) get in the way of signing a guy...promotes him, so he starts him during Pride Week (this is on Bloom btw, not anyone else), then releases him the same night...this is the height of pussydom for Bloom and in all honesty doing the right thing, not standing by doing the right thing, giving in because we aren't allowed to apologize for mistakes anymore--cancelled! Then Bloom put Dermody in the worst case scenario, then designates him for assignment....Kluber meanwhile gives up 8 straight hits in relief...how bout just RELEASING HIS ASS, BLOOM! Fire BLOOM! Says it was a baseball move to drop him....bull to the s***.

Not really sure why people are getting upset by Dermody, he was literally acquired to be depth in case they needed a starter for a game and he served that purpose. THey obviously do NOT want to move Kluber and Pivetta back to the rotation (something I think few would be unhappy with around here) and they can't recall guys they just option down to Pawtucket, so they had limited bullpen options if they even did wanna move a guy out of the bullpen and into the rotation. All MLB teams end up making a few moves like this every year.

It wasn’t just one tweet. The dude has non stopped liked and promoted racism and other s*** on his Twitter profile and there is the fact he f***ing sucks at baseball. It’s not like they signed some talented pitcher with baggage to help the team. They signed a racist homophobic dude who is 32, with no upside and has a negative WAR in his career.

Dude has no place in baseball, both due to his on the field skills, and his off the field opinions. He trended on twitter all night and had to make his account private for a little bit because he got flooded by people tweeting him things like “if you hate gays so much, why did you let Jose Ramírez f*** you in the ass during pride month?”

And the fact they took the backlash, knew his history, and then used him for one game, which was essentially a forfeit is just absurd.

It's not Dermody, it's the situation. The timing. Think about it. Why would you even bother to throw a journeyman (emergency or not) during "Pride Month"....this is like throwing a grenade from your trench and having it hit the top of the trench bounce back and blow you up.

If they were willing to take that backlash they should have signed Trevor Bauer, who is at least talented.

You just made my case to Fire Bloom.

They already have a GM (Brian O'Halloran) in place. Going without Chaim (Chief Baseball Officer) for the remainder of the year shouldn't be a big deal in theory.

Bauer was sent down to Japan's minor leagues. Couldn't hack it at their big league level.
