I fully understood his point and responded to one part of it.

But he didn’t say Bloom was the GM in 2019, so I don’t know why you commented on that.

Then stop caring

I never did care on long it takes to build up the farm. That’s your gig. I didn’t say it wasn’t important, but that’s as far as I go.

You will never understand how long it takes to rebuild a farm and then to start seeing results.

Check out when the Astros acquired their homegrown talent on the ML roster, now.

right and theyve been to 4 of the last 6 world series. so the results are at least 6 years old now.

Those numbers a very misleading Philly was building up a team while Bloom was tearing down the 2018 world champions, as evidence by their respective finishes this year, Philly goes to WS we wallow in the cellar

Misleading?

Bloom took over a team that was 84-78 in 2019. Dombrowski took over a team that was 81-81 in 2019. (He wasn’t in charge for 2020 yet, but those 60 game seasons don’t tell you much. Philly finished 28-32 that year, but that’s not a far cry from the 2022 team’s record of 30-30 after 60 games.). Bottom line - Dombrowski wasn’t taking over some last place team that couldn’t compete.

Not sure why the starting point is so different. Unless all of that “all that matters is wins and losses” is only used when it fits one side or the other.

What is misleading is saying Bloom was tearing down the 2018 team. He tore down a 2019 team that got 24 games worse in the standings and was saddled with a slew of questionable contracts…

Sox could have had Peña from the 2018 draft, but DD passed on him. I guess Orono Maine was to far to travel to scout.

bloom took over a winning team and turned it into a losing team

DD took over a .500 team and turned it into a WS team

does that work?

All that matters at the moment is Philly is going to the WS, and the Red Sox are sitting home at the kiddie table for being in last place watching.

drafts are full of should haves. would be interesting to see the draft score we had on Pena prior to that draft

They are your numbers, but everything else aside my point was their going to the WS and we finished last in our division, spin it any way you want but thats all I said

Not my numbers. Actual MLB records.

And the Phillies watched the Sox in the ALCS just one year ago from their couches.

Both teams have fared similarly over the last two seasons. That is a fact. And last year’s 82-80 Phillies wouldn’t have look so good playing in the 2022 AL East, where 82 wins is a last place record compared to those other 4 teams.

Last year it was practically the opposite.

The real bottom line is both teams have fared similarly over the past two seasons. The only difference is the biases…

And they really didn’t draft all that well. They had the number one overall pick 3 years in a row and totally flopped on two of them…

The Phillies had 87 wins this year and would have made the playoff if they were in the al east, other than that it’s apples and oranges how they would have fared, they couldn’t do any worse than the teams representing the AL East, Rays 0 wins Jays 0 wins Yankees 3 wins 6 loses

The postseason is largely a crapshoot. Philly was definitely helped by San Diego taking down the Mets and Dodgers.

But again, the two teams have basically the same record over two seasons. Neither team was in some elite starting point as good or bad. (It’s blatantly false to say Bloom tore down the 2018 champions.). Both teams have had one good postseason run. Phillies got one round further.

But Recency Effect and biases make up the difference…

Bloom was dumb enough to let Ralph Kramden sign with the Phillies when he should have been the 2022 LF and the 2023-? DH.

Dombrowski took over a Sox team that had finished last two years running. In his first year , they won the A.L. East. In his third year , they won it all. The Phillies had not been to the post season since 2011. In Dombrowski's second year , they are in the World Series. In Bloom's third year , the Sox are back in last place again.

As it ended up he would have even been an improvement at 1B over Franchy Strangeglove.

They are interchangeable. Very polite too. Always apologizing for all of Blooms mistakes.
